Great info from everyone! I would like to add a couple of tips that may work for you. I use 10 lb braid tied to a #1 Sampo swivel (I use the #1 Sampo with a snap so I can pre tie my leader and save some time on the water), than use 8 lb flouracarbon to a #6 mustad hook. I've had great success with the #6 mustad hooked thru the nose of the worm (very small and inexpensive hook and makes the worm more natural). I use worms from 4-6 inches, but my favorite is a 4 inch purple flat tail worm that I hand pour.

Denny, you are really right about how the lake is fishing. You just have to get on a deal. It seems that it is on fire for a few minutes and then goes totally dead. I spoke to several guides this morning fishing crawlers and they were struggling big time.

I had a very nice run this morning just before full daylight, and then went to absolute nothing for really over 2 hours. I hit 6 locations in that period of time with a nice breeze on them and skunked.

Went to your good Hiddy Hole and got hung up twice and lost two dropshot rigs and was just ready to punt when I saw the dropshot fish on a long runnout while I was idleing in to throw the jig that was not working. We dropped on them and they were all keepers. Hit a couple of docks on the way in and caught fish on both, to come up with the save.

In 4 hrs. plus, we really had about 30 minutes of great action. We did make the most of it and boated all our bites.

Good Luck

I could not get the FB jig going at all last week or this week. Pulled a tube and a 1/2oz FB shakey in the same kinds of FB jig places and caught them. Fish were coming in full of tiny craws, maybe just over an inch or so.

Shallow fish were still on the Ned Rig yesterday to the tune of 3 keepers and a good number of shorts. Did a lot of that because the kids are pretty proficient at it now. If alone I probably would have dragged the tube and big shakey more, better percentage of keepers to bites.

Like denjac I had trouble staying with the deep ones. Found them easily enough but seemed like they were on spots half the area of your boat. With the kids we would catch one, get some manner of drop shot tangle, or have to stop to immortalize the fish on film, then lose the school. Oh well.

Worse, we had it happen Monday after getting all over some roaming whites with a spoon. Smallest was about 15" up to 18". Kids were practically shaking after getting a hookup on every drop for a few minutes. They had seen me catch some whites, but never caught their own before.

Jeb and I were out early yesterday around the Big M area, tough bite for us, we got 3 keeps and about a half dozen shorts. Came on a mixture of stuff, Ike DT 16, big shakey head, c-rigged craws and FB jigs.

Thanks for the tip on the tube, may have to drag that around next week. Weather's gonna be hot, dunno if there will be much of a mid-day bite anymore.

Fish on shallow gravel and in the 15' or so brush never really slowed down during the morning. Just was a question of how many wakes were too many, but we were mostly fishing it around HWY 13 with all the big boats there. Also had to get in so we could swim, chase lizards around the resort, do the tourist thing, etc...

Seems like we never came in to just take a nice afternoon nap :(

Pic is of one of the tube fish and her breakfast, our 5th keeper that morning. Just keepers, no bigs. Still on the green and orange craws. Caught some whites spooning the bottom in 35'-40' that were spitting the same craws.

Dropshot fishing today was simply off the charts. Got a late start out of the lodge, with bed and breakfast guests. Hit the water at 8 AM with a launch out of Baxter. Just about as much fishing traffic as I have ever seen from Baxter to point 9 Headed up that way and simply could not get on anything. There was a boat just past goat island that had 4 markers out and they were spread over a 400 yrd. area. Just about took one of them out. (Guys, you cannot rope off lake sections for your private use.} Went to cemetary and had to turn around and head back up the White River as really could not find anything or any of my usual locations that someone was not setting on. I'm going to say between Baxter and the James River split at point 9, including cemetary, There were easily 50 bass and fishing boats lining both sides of the a bank That is about a 5 mile area.

Headed back up the White past point 19 and it seemed to open up abit on the flats, and I found a really good runnout to set on. As soon as I hit the brakes and coasted up to my first gps location, the screen just came alive. We had at least 10 tripples and really lost count of the crawler fish. Two ladies that had never fished and a husband that had gone only twice. Trish, Bob and Lorran, and I am just guessing caught and released between 50 and 60 fish this morning from 8:30 to 11:30 Quite a few of these were keeps, probably between a dozen and fifteen. We had catfish, walleye, K's, SmallJaws, LM, Blue Gill, Green Ear Sunfish, white bass and 1 for "Pete Sakes, Crappie." I used 2 24 boxes and 3 12 boxes of crawlers. When I ran out of bait we quit, with them still biting. Surface temps was 84, with a slight stain. Very nice gentle breeze and 78 degrees. Caught fish from a magic depth of 28ft. Both Gizzard and Threadfin shad were everywhere. At times the Shad would black me out. Usually we caught the bass between the schools of bait fish.

Most times I have to work for them, but today they worked for me.

Even with the prussure we found a hidy hole and it was one of the best locations of the year.

Good Luck
