Members PSUWill Posted August 6, 2012 Members Posted August 6, 2012 FYI for all floaters on shoal creek above the undercliff campground the Sheriff's officers were set up on the edge of what I would assume was Mr Prater's land to check the floaters. I was floating saturday with my brother and they checked our license, flotation device, and trash bag. They were all kind enough and it was nice to see them patrolling at least some of MO creeks. Fishing was good.
Buzz Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Did they check you as you were putting in or did they stop you as you were floating? I never carry PFD's. Did they say anything specific about them? If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 6, 2012 Root Admin Posted August 6, 2012 If they weren't MDC agents, they can NOT write game violations. They can hold you till one comes but they have no authority to write a ticket. As for the other stuff... I don't know.
gramps50 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Maybe they were looking for someone or something and was just using the checkpoint as a descise. Wheither or not they can write you up for boating violations is a good question. I know some local sherriffs, if I remember I will ask next time I talk to one of them.

Feathers and Fins Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 They were looking for Chief if it was pratters land lol. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
ollie Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Ok, I think they were looking for someone or something in particular. They would have no reason to send manpower there unless they had a tip about someome or something. That stretch of water holds nothing for party goers and rarely do you see anyone float it. Sounds fishy to me. I smell a set-up in that one. In Neosho they will set up random checkpoints as well claiming they are just checking for license and insurance when in fact most of the time they are right down the street from some big party going on. Sounds typical for Newton County.
