Greasy B Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 The self deprecating report was every bit as informative as a success story and a whole lot more entertaining. Thanks for the chuckle. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Gavin Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Thats fishing...you never learn a darn thing when the fishing is easy.
Mitch f Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I've come to the realization I can't fish very effectively out of a canoe, it's even tougher in windy conditions, very nice report!! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Haris122 Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 5 fish in 3 hours, especially with all the leaves falling, that would be the best day to date in my book. That was no small task. I tossed around a crankbait for an hour and a half and I can't recall retrieving it more than twice, without it catching on those leaves in the river.
Al Agnew Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 I hate to think of how many autumn days, especially windy autumn days, when I did worse than that. There was a time when I about gave up fishing for stream bass in October because of leaves and generally poor fishing. The good days were rare, but just enough to keep me hoping to duplicate them. As it is, until the leaves are mostly finished falling, I still won't go on any of the smaller streams in the fall. At least on the bigger ones there aren't as many leaves per square foot of water (although I did a jetboat trip on Current River a few years ago when the leaves were simply incredible...no way you could fish anything but a fluke or weedless jig.)
Members gersus Posted October 26, 2012 Members Posted October 26, 2012 I'm glad I'm not the only one! Fighting the leaves is a pain! I still love getting out this time of year, even if the fishing isn't awesome.
LittleRedFisherman Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Enjoyed the honest report, to me that's still worth the trip! I love to catch fish, but the experience alone of being on those streams just makes life grand to me. I agree with the leaves, it makes it tough. I've logged in about 170 hours on a cotton picker the last 2 weeks, and have been dreaming of my upcoming offseason as motivation to keep a grinding. I'd love to fish those streams this time of year, but no time as Harvest requires to make hay while the sun is shining. Enjoy reading reports like this as I can't be out there right now. Soon though I"ll be chasing smallies and trout all winter, can't wait. We need to hook up sometime, I fish during weekdays in the Winter!! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
E Green Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 well...i took my new kayak out for the first time yesterday...got out in the middle of the small lake (pinewoods in carter county)and my pole fell overboard before i could even make a cast. Talk about fail! thought the rod holder would hold it in place...oops! love the kayak though! haha
