I have a couple of lakes close to home, one of 7 acres at full pool and the other of about 180. I am looking to catch bass in them all winter long, provided there is no ice covering the water. I haven't fished extensively in cold water for largemouth and was wondering what lures you would toss, what tackle you would use, and what areas of the lake one should focus on.

In the past, the only times I have caught coldwater bass, I was using plastics and fishing them in constant contact with the bottom.

If the water gets fairly clear....Jerkbaits along the face of the dam. You'll need a boat or something to float on though so you can retrieve from the bank out.

If stuck on land you're pretty much limited to stiching a jig-n-pig or 4-5" chomper along the steeper Northside banks.

Who else here is old enough to know what "stiching a jig" is? :)

I'm old enough. Mumbasa, Kenya. I was on a West-Pac back in '79. Needle marks after the aftermath resemble those left from a marlinspike.

stitch that baby one thumb revoulution at at a time. Try a Zoom Centipe, green pumpkin, inched along bottom, or a shad rap cranked real......slow.

Ness, how did you know?

I guess some jignpig stuff is in my near future. Favorite colors? When you sat jerkbaits, what are you referring to? I assume like the Rapala HJ08 or something similar, but if I am wrong, let me know.

Went to school at Baker; remembered you lived there; lake sizes you quoted were about right. Just drove through over Maple Leaf and swung by the 'Old Lake' for grins. Did some prairie restoration work along the road to the county lake. Used to hunt quail below the dam. Other assorted shenanigans at both lakes.
