Members jwingo Posted November 21, 2012 Members Posted November 21, 2012 Wife and I were out fishing this past Saturday at Blue Springs crappie fishing. We were letting the wind blow us down the bank. She had a pole rigged up with a minnow, small hook and bobber laying on the back of the boat while casting with another pole. We were in 5 feet of water and she yells that she is hung up. I start to turn the boat around and see the line just running out to the middle of the lake - I told her she had a fish. She handed me the pole while she reeled her other one in, I chase the fish half way across the lake before the fish finally gives up. Offical weight, 19lbs 9 ounces. 1 pound shy of the Missouri State Hybird Striped Bass record. The fish is in the freezer waiting to be mounted.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Great story and what a pig!!!! Nicely done. Sometimes the fly / lure / bait is fishing even when you aren't. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

Bird Watcher Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Wow!. one of these days...I'm stil trying to break the 16# mark. 19#s is a giant. Congratulations. that's a beautiful fish.
fishinwrench Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Awesome Fish ! Are we sure that isn't a very fat Striper? Either way that's one hell of a fish to land on a crappie rod. Congrats!
Mitch f Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Are we sure that isn't a very fat Striper? My thoughts as well, I though the lines on a hybrid were broken. Doesn't matter, thats a huge fish. I cant imagine how you landed it without it stripping all the line off the reel. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Members jwingo Posted November 26, 2012 Author Members Posted November 26, 2012 According to the Conservation officer that checked the fish out, its a hybird striped bass. When I first pulled it into the boat, like you I thought is a fat striper. As far as landing it without it stripping all the line, all I can say is I am thankful for the trolling motor and the fish just making a short run and wearing out.
Mitch f Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I found this: http://www.arkansasstripers.com/identification-white-bass-striped-bass-hybrid-bass.htm "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
