Jerry Rapp Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 hey ness, how about Russell Wilson in Seattle? 75th pick I think? Brady was a 6th round pick back in the day. I am convinced more and more you best spend money on a good coach. I despise Pete Carroll since he bailed on the USC scandel, but he knows how to "motivate" players.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I wouldn't be surprised if KC didn't take the ND linebacker and then an OL before a QB. I don't think QB's are that much in demand this year and the Chiefs will have 3 picks to the others 2 early on. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Quillback Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 Yeah they may not try for the QB, maybe pickup some cast off like Vick, Sanchez, Hasselbeck and beef up the OL or defence. Griefs fell behind early a lot this year which took out their running game, get a good defence going and cut down on the turnovers and they could be competitive. Probably would stink for another year, but then a good QB may come up next year.

Yeah Jerry, I know there are examples of good ones. Nobody remembers the bad ones though. Well, I remember one -- Blackledge. Montana was a good QB before KC. He just couldn't get it done anymore and that is why KC got him. Marty Schottenheimer should have never been fired. That was the begining of KC's down fall. And it looks as if they are at rock bottom now. But there is still hope. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2012/11/10/marty-schottenheimer-no-desire-to-coach-wasnt-in-kansas-city/1696675/ BTW Chief -- Shottenheimer resigned, wasn't fired. Not many wanted him to go, me included, but he got caught in an extramarital affair that sorta drug him down. Or dangle that first pick out there and trade for somebody big to help us turn it around. John
exiledguide Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 When you have an owner who is a knucklehead I don't think the Chiefs stand a chance unless they get rid of the knucklehead. He's the one who signs off on all the decisions made by the GM and the coach.

Wayne SW/MO Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Yeah Jerry, I know there are examples of good ones. Nobody remembers the bad ones though. Well, I remember one -- Blackledge. Huh. When did Levy play him? His stats were better than Marino's, as I've said, but levy wanted to show he could win some games. Then Mackovic came in and by then Blackledge had gone cold. The sorry thing is that is the last time the really went for a good QB in the draft. The way they handled him wasn't that same as Marino was handled. In fact I think Kelly might have come out of that class. My point is that KC didn't go the distance with him to see if he would have developed. They knew going in they didn't have the line that would allow any young QB to build confidence. The line today is limping and not exactly a good one to start a young QB behind, especially the top ones available who are all prone to get excited. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Justin Spencer Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Don't forget about Green, best offense I can remember, but couldn't stop anyone. They blew it with Wilson last year, his only knock was his height, just ask Freddie Patek who said I'd rather be the smallest player in the majors, than the tallest in the minors. I'm not real high on any of the QB's coming out this year, maybe pick up Alex Smith or take a flier on Vick, use the draft to get an O lineman even though that's not too sexy we need help there. Maybe the Royals can win next year, Chiefs are in trouble until they can solidify that QB position. I just meant he was a high pick QB that didn't pan out. The other variables you mention are always in the mix too. Yes, Kelly was in that class along with a dude named Elway (and Tony Eason). And....Blackledge was the 'right' pick based on college stats. You just never know -- it's like the stars need to be aligned right or something. Tebow is an interesting guy. I can't help but think his work ethic and sheer desire are contagious, so pretty valuable for any team. I like the way he willed the Broncos into wins toward the end of 2011. Honestly I'd love it if he ended up here because I've always felt he could help about any team he's on. I could see him as a TE (don't know if he can catch), or a FB too. But, I'll readily admit I just flat like the guy and want him to succeed. John
