Champ188 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Sorry, posted this to TR forum instead of Beaver but might be of interest anyway. Prize money was paid to the top six teams. All teams listed weighed a six-bass limit. 1. Nick Frakes, Andy Benson, 21 pounds, 2 ounces. 2. Larry Walker, Jared Gobel, 17-12. 3. Warren Edwards, Allan Shannon, 16-5. 4. Rocky Hopkins, Jerry Ray, 15-15 5. Tony Anderson, Scott Patton, 15-14. 6. Jason Mitchell, Sheldon Vinson, 15-6. Congrats and good job to all on a miserably cold day.
motoman Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Congrats indeed......I'd be thrilled with those sacks in this weather. - Not looking for any secrets; but I'm always curious what guys are throwing in weather like this?........I have some thoughts, but I always like to see if I have a clue.(lol)
Quillback Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 What they winners were throwing in the Polar Bear seems to be top secret info. But people are snooping around as you read this. We will have an answer, lol. If I ran one of the tackle shops that sells to Beaver fishermen, I'd sure want to know, and I'd have the lure or lures in question prominently displayed, bet you could sell a bunch.
Sore Thumbs Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Guys Im not sure how the other guys caught em, we came in 6th place and we caught them on a jerkbait, jig and spinner bait. Could not get em to bite a crank bait. Got maybe 1 bite all day on a wiggle wart.
Donna G Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I've heard that the winners caught 'em on spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and jigs. Sounds reasonable, but who knows? You can hear anything. The water was still 47-49 degrees, although the air temp got butt cold that afternoon with north wind, sleet and snow. Warm enough for a spinnerbait and we had wind. Done with Beaver until next New Year's. lol Went to TR yesterday afternoon and caught a few on a jerkbait. We started to go to Grand and Champ188 decided to head to Holiday Island instead. News flash - you don't want to launch there. Ramp drops off, then there's a crater followed by a hump. We might have got it in the water - wouldn't have been any fun getting out. We ended up going out of Eagle Rock. Ron Burgundy Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Thanks for the ramp info, I was planning on launching there in a few weeks. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
Donna G Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 You're welcome, Ron. Be glad when we get some water back in the lakes. Last time we went to Eucha in Oklahoma, we launched off the bank. The ramps were closed. It's a little eerie to see tree tops in places you never have, too. Feathers and Fins Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 If Beaver drops another 6 inches i did some calulation and people will want to stop using the ACE ramps, most you will fall off of, Use Old PC dirt, Beaver Shores, Rocky Branch the old dirt road, Montne Dirt, etc those you dont have a concrete fall off from. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Champ188 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Good point, F&F. Even now, people need to be really careful when using those concrete ramps. If the water is clear enough, give it a visual glance before launching. Even then, the driver should back up SLOWLY in case to prevent backing off a steep drop and damaging a trailer.
Sore Thumbs Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Yeah Champ. People were falling off that right said at Prairie Creek during the Polar Bear.
