Football Head Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I've been to Latourells in Ely, MN several times. Have had a great expierence each time and got tons of fish and numerouse big ones. It's a great place and the service is top notch. PM if you want more info.
Guest Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 We've also considered a lodge/fishing camp that allows self guided trips out of their v-hull boats. But I cant remember the name of the lodge/outfitter.
David Unnerstall Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 The upper Mississippi river can't be beat. If you are into more of a northwoods experience, check out some of the outfitters around Ely MN. Lots of lakes to paddle into on daytrips or overnights in the boundary waters canoe area. TONS of lakes with killer smallmouth, walleye, pike and lake trout fishing, some allow motors while others don't. Crane lake, lake vermillion, moose, fall, shagawa, and basswood lake are all in the area and allow motors and have great fishing. I especially like the drive along the north shore of lake superior too. You can kill a lot of time searching this link too. It gives fish survey data from the MN dnr, just find the lake name and county it is located in. Helps to find those small lakes with giant smallies! http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/index.html Ely is just an amazing town. Nobody in Ely is from Ely because they can't stand the winters. I have done some ice-fishing via dog sled up there and it was amazing. But, Trophy, I suspect the ice fisherman will have caught all of the ice by July and there won't be any left.
exiledguide Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Check out Pelican lake at Orr MN It's the one lake I was always going to fish someday. It's about 900 miles from Fayetteville area. Pelican lake assn has a website. I drove by it for almost 20 years on my way to NW Ontario and I kick myself for never stopping there. It may be too late this year to get a reservation any where in Minnesota this year so where ever you decide to go I'd get booked as soon as possible. These people will be at the outdoor shows right now and may run out of cabins for this year pretty soon.

Mitch f Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 For lake fishing you can also consider Burt and Mullet lakes in Michigan for huge lake Smallies "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Guest Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I forgot to mention, that its got to be a smaller body of water. Otherwise my wife gets sea sick and pukes on me! LOL Boot Lake in Wisconsin looks perfect in size
Al Agnew Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Nobody has mentioned the Menominee River yet. Border of Wisconsin and Michigan. It's on my short list of rivers to fish. And actually, I've heard some good things about the Wisconsin River. It would be a little closer. There are a number of guides on the Menominee, don't know about the Wisconsin.
Jerry Rapp Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I think a boundary waters trip would be a good idea. I have never done it, because I don't want to fish in a rain barrell and have no desire to "rough" it for several days. But, I have never heard of anyone not saying that it wasn't a trip of a life time if that is what you want to do.
