Sounds like you're set on Costa, but maybe look at some others first? I've got Smith's and they've been great for over 10 years. Broke the frame once and Smith replaced it free of charge. I got photochromic that darken/lighten with the ambient light. I do mostly stream fishing, and when the sun goes behind the trees they lighten up. Pretty sweet. Mine are amber glass, and prescription. Glass is real nice because it won't get the micro scratches the plastic will - so they stay nice and clear. Of course, they cost more and if you drop them it could be a total loss. But I've managed to keep it to one small nick over all this time. I've *always* got them on a lanyard.

I like Oakley too but this will sound stupid but what I like about the Costa's I'm looking at is the blue mirror lens and Oakley doesn't offer those in Polaroid lens....I went to the Oakely site and custom built some and they don't offer those in blue mirror....thanks for the input, I will check out the smiths before I get some.

Ron, I wear the original green mirror lens (not the 580s) and love them. Have two pairs (Zane and Brine models) and Donna has a pair of Harpoons, which she also adores. All have held up well except that I dropped my Zanes and broke a lens and crushed my Brines in my jacket pocket, like a numbnuts. Got lenses replaced and was back in business.

Can't blame a product or a company when you break it out of abuse. The lenses are glass — you drop them, chances are they will break. They're big boy glasses, not toys.

Oakley actually has a few blue lens options. Deep blue, shallow blue and ice iridium. Just a heads up.

Usually go to a local optician who specializes in prescription safety and sunglasses....I pick my frames...any polycarb lens that I want. He does not do glass, but I cant tell the diff between poly & glass anymore, and my nose does not miss the weight.

I've tried them all, best for me,the light framed Smith poly-carb's. They have a no hassle warranty for life on structural defects, which I have actually used. They are the number 1# pick for m/cycle racing, ski sports and even have a combat line for soldiers, they have really mastered the polycarbon lens. Costa's haven't really changed much in 20 years. The weight of glass is a real hassle for me especialy in the warm months when I sweat, their weight causes them to begin sliding off my face, Also if you drop glass on a hard surface they tend to crack or get a nasty scratch. I don't even know I'm wearing my Smiths half the time and they stick like glue in the summer. It's amazing the difference a few onces can make. Best deals are on ebay...all of this is of course is IMHO..........Roger

I bought a pair of cheap ($10 bucks) polarized amber lens sunglasses at a gas station over 15 years ago. I have searched all over the internet to try to find another pair like them. They have been my best fishing glasses. I'll probably cry, if I ever lose them. :)
