jdmidwest Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Local gunshow this weekend drew a large crowd. More guns than I have ever seen in a while at this show. Many AR, Uzi, Galil, AK 47, and even a couple H&K's. Plenty of ammo. Downside, most guns were double the price they were at the last show which took place the weekend of Sandy Hook. Olympic Arms basic 20" AR $1650. DPMS Oracle $1295. The Oracle sold for $625 at the last show. 22lr Blazer bricks $60. Winchester 555 bulk packs $75. 9mm Blazer Brass $31.50 for 50. It was really stupid. I was pretty disgusted with the mess of people that have been drying up the ammo supply just trying to make a quick buck. And all the noobies wandering around talking about it being the first gunshow they had ever been too. Dang O Voters looking for the gunshow loopholes. It was enough to make me sick. I went out and bought me a nice new Android tablet instead. I will buy guns when they come back to earth. fishinwrench Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I, for one, really appreciate you calling them guns instead of 'Weapons". I'm so sick of that word I could puke in the lap of the next person I hear say it.
jdmidwest Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 Weapon is what anti gunners use to make them seem more ominious and scary. Sure, in professional protection and the military, they are weapons. But everywhere else they are guns. I hunt with a gun. I carry a gun for personal defense. Wayne SW/MO Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I understand that even 223/5.56 brass has skyrocketed. I know it took a small jump when the gubmit quit selling its surplus and now I guess it's even higher. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ness Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Had two more accidental shootings in KC recently. One was a 3 year old kid that found his daddy's gun. Apparently daddy was getting ready to clean it and set it down, just for a second. In another one a dude pulled a gun out of a shoe box at a Super Bowl party and shot his buddy across the room in the back of the head. Seems like I'm hearing more and more of these stories. Makes me think some of those newbies you saw at the gun show will be showing up on the news. John
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 And yet Ness a bill that was proposed in the MO legislature that would require grade schools to teach gun safety caused an uproar among educators that were opposed. The opposition that I heard was in regards to the time involved. Both of your stories are hard to imagine, but you can't fix stupid. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ness Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I agree -- both those stories are just stupid people owning guns. I think the opposition to gun safety training was a knee-jerk reaction though. Parents and teachers thinking they shouldn't have to submit their kids to that -- just fix it another way. They teach 'Stranger Danger' and 'Stop, drop, and roll' at schools. Why not discuss gun safety? It sounds a little crazy at first, but it shouldn't be a full blown how-to-handle-a-gun class. More 'leave it alone' training for the kids and maybe drag the parents into another room and tell them how to be safe with a gun in the house. But, there are so many accidents lately. A couple years ago some dumba** shot a gun off 4th of July in KC -- killed a little girl a few blocks away. A toddler in Independence was killed last summer when he found dad's gun under the sofa cushion. A few weeks ago a 4 year old girl in KC was killed by a 6 year old boy. Last month a 12 year old kid in Breckenridge, MO killed himself while messing around with a gun. Some numbskull (who had a CC permit) accidentally shot his wife in the leg at a restaurant in Lenexa in January. Along a different line -- this morning's paper had a story about a highly touted football prospect in KC who had offers from K-State and other schools. He and some other teens are accused of robbing some folks at gunpoint. I think we've gotten to the point where guns are cool and people, especially younger people, who have no clue what they're doing are buying them just to be a bada**, John
Jason R. Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I agree with ness. I'm fairly young and I have guns just to be a bad***. Also to shoot cans. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Flysmallie Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Some numbskull (who had a CC permit) accidentally shot his wife in the leg at a restaurant in Lenexa in January. Yeah that was at the Longbranch. I had a friend that was there. The police wouldn't enter the building until the bartender had secured the weapon.
