Kayak Info Needed

First off don't know a lot about kayak varieties so looking to ask some "pros" their opinions. I fish rivers that are rock/gravel bottoms and in the summertime they get low, so some dragging goes along. I prefer the sit on top style and trips on the water probably would not be longer than a day. I like a 10-11ft style. The prices range from high 300's to over a grand. I don't need all the bells and whistles but just the right setup for fishing needs and for sure a comfortable seat and backrest. I will be buying 2. Thanks a lot for the help.

Use the search function on here and your bound to get a wealth of information on the subject. I started kayak fishing back in 2002 and have never looked back. I own a Wilderness System yak, but mine is sit in. If I had to do it over again I probably would have bought a sit on instead. But hey, after that long and one hole repaired I still own the "queen mary" as Wayne would tell me! lol

Yup the unsinkable Queen Mary. I'm a Tarpon fan, but how you fish will make a big difference also. If you're going to use one for transportation and than wade to fish something like the Riveras that cwc87 has would probably do a fine job.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Hard to beat the $499 perception pescador at Academy. Same boat as the old Tarpon 120 for half the price. it's a 12 foot boat that is comfortable, handles well and is a proven design. You can't stand in it though. BFD for me, when I want to stand up, I just get out.

Wally, all of these above are good choices...... look at thesehttp://jacksonkayak.com/jk-kayaks/kayak-fishing/coosa/ I have two and I sound like you and need a comfortable seat and like a higher platform. I also recomend these possibly the most comfortable kayak/canoe ever if you mount a nice Tempress seat in it and the stand up barhttp://www.nucanoe.com/models/frontier/

there are a ton of yaks out there and all have their specific advantages over others.....like I said I like to stand in mine and sit in a big nice seat well above the water line.....I don't like my butt in water while I fish.

I will be buying a coosa in a month or so, gotta save my pennies up. I fished out of a ascend fs12 for a couple years and for the price it is a good kayak, but there are much better options.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Mr. Smallie Bigs can dance around on his Coosa....Darn good down river boat for a day trip..can haul enough possibles for a couple summer nights camping in that boat. Not enough capacity for more than 2 nights or winter tripping...but a very solid boat. The Perception Pescador is good too...not gonna stand in it...comfy with some seat mods...alot cheaper. Will hold enough gear for an overnight if you are a minimalist...I usually end up hauling the cant do withouts in my big old barge/commissary boat of a canoe whenever I overnight with with kayakers.
