Wayne SW/MO Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I would disagree that it's a nasty fish, but I don't have a problem with the event as long as the catch was put to good use. I do believe that if Morris really wanted to help he would set up a canning system and donate the food to the food banks, rather than a turtle farm in the future. he has the resources to make it happen. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
bfishn Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 McFish McNugget specials this week at participating franchises. I can't dance like I used to.
roy_eros Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Glad this tournament wasn't a few weeks later with the bass in the shallows.. I've head the bow hunters can pretty frequently accidentally shoot a bass.
Bill Babler Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Was talking to one of the guys at the gas station from Louisiana. He said he can kill a thousand pounds a night, every night there. He said this was hard. Those boys spent a bunch of money here. We appreciate it. They did not hurt a thing. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

Usually start seeing numbers of carp up where you could shoot them sometime in May.

Agreed, a bit early. Was about ready to hit the bed a little after 10PM on Saturday night and thought a UFO was coming off the lake and I was about to get anal probed. Our place is right on the water in Beardsley. I had forgotten about the bow fishing tournaments and after being blinded and deaf for a few seconds I realized that I was not going to get tractor beamed up into the mother ship. They were annoying all night but ah well. I will sacrifice a few moments of shut eye for the local businesses to make some money and to allow someone to be having a good time.
duckydoty Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I'm glad I'm not the only one to comment on this. It wasn't only in Clevenger since there were reportedly 110 boats entered. Two sleepless nights in a row with multiple roaring engines that never got shut down and incredibly bright lights, that never got turned off, shining in our home all night so bright you could literally read a newspaper by them is a little too much. And no, this is not an exaggeration, maybe an understatment. What happened to the MO law that a vessel operating after sunset could only display navigation and anchor lights ? Are there no decible limit laws on Table Rock because these things sure exceeded them ? These boats were running back and forth all night long down the middle of the lake to their "hunting" grounds with those nuclear powered lights on. Anybody else trying to do a little Spring night fishing had to be blinded. Not every boat was a roaring Airboat but those that were kept their big engines going even while "cruising" the flats, bays and shallow points looking for targets. They finally shut down and pulled out about 6:15 this morning...YAWN ! I hope their little tournament is over and good riddance. According to Coast Guard rules and regulations governing inland waters, a boat can display any lights as long as they do not interfere with the ability of the posted look out to see. The red and green side lights and all around white light is a minimum requirement for all boats 7 meters or less while under way or making way. Bill Babler Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 My wife found out yesterday that they had to have a special lic. and that there were regulatiions waved for this event as far as noise levels and after dark operations. Special deal, we will probably not see it again. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
fishinwrench Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Other than a regatta permit, what special license were they required to have? And aside from some noise level regulation I don't see what rule would have to be waived or bended. Airboats aren't any louder than a scarab with twin 454's
Nitroman Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Had a report on the KY3 news last night saying that this type of boat ( called it an AIR-BOAT & showed one being launched @ the tournament ) according to the STATE OF MO. HWY. PATROL WATER PATROL DIVISION were illegal & could not be used in the STATE OF MO. due to noise level & enviormental concerns. But that they had been granted a " ONE TIME ONLY " permit & if this tournament is held again in the future these types of boats would not be allowed.
