Guest Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Did ya notice I posted the Grand Slam Jaw, LM, K and MM. Just-Sayin. Good Luck Not too many lakes can produce a solid grand slam, very impressive. Is it just me, or is this the coldest water that we've had this late in the year? I sure didn't expect it to be this cold for this long. I think Dec & Jan were warmer than March & April.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I'm with you both Phil and 5 TR is still cool. I accually went back in cow looking for beds around the ramp and did not see any. As far as Taney, yesterday in the restricted zone it was 46. They must not have moved any water. They are wanting TR to fill up so they can have an event on a 3 inch rain. Makes you wonder. Forecast is slightly reminiscent of 2011. About the same lake level as well. KY3 is calling for a front to stall out with a chance of showers and storms for several days.
moguy1973 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 We were probably one of the boats in Cow that was too close. And we really couldn't buy a bite. We fished between west Fischer and cows and I was skunked and my buddy only had 5 with the biggest being a 2.5lbs LM. Caught them on everything from 6' cranks to jigs to shakey headed brush hogs. Guess we don't understand the techniques involved with catching a fish that is suspended at 15-25' in 50' of water. With that float-n-fly is it a slip bobber thing? And how do you catch these fish with a Carolina rigged fluke in that situation? As for bedding bass, we were up deep in some of the coves in Cow and Little Cow and saw a lot of fish cruising the beds. Doubt they were really on them already but they were sure back there. With the clear water the beds stick out like a sore thumb. Didn't see anything huge back there but they were there. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Why people think you have to be in contact with the bottom at all times just really confuses me. As has been stated the only reason there is a bank around the lake is to hold the water in. Table Rock Fish for the most part could give as flyin crap about the bank. Especially with 20 to 30 ft. of visibility. Table Rock fish are on the bottom probably about 1% of the time. The rest of the time they are suspended, schooling in the trees or chasing. They only need the bottom to spawn and catch a crawdaddy on occusion. They can catch that daddy on the bottom in 40 ft. it they want, they don't have to do it in a foot. They can spawn in 20 ft. they don't have to do that in a foot either. Real simple to catch a fish on a stickbait, fluke grub or an A-Rig deep, throw it off the bluffends let it sink to the count of 10 to 20 and start winding it back real slow. Or on the sticker, jerk it back and let it set. Had 20 fish with 7 quality keepers today doing just that in the midst of massive trolling motor problems again. I was paddling my client around with my net. Had some super fish, and you know, we never got within a rifle shot of the bank. This is the White River, it is not Lake O or Truman. our fish for the most part live in the lake, not on the shore. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Jerry Rapp Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 question Bill. Unless I am mistaken, doesn't every boat have to have a paddle on board? And trolling motors are the weakest link in any bass boat. I would think it is time for a new one.
Bill Babler Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Paddle is suggested equipment. You have to have it to pass an inspection, but you will not be fined without one. Should have had one. I have had a New Minn cota on this boat and a new Motor Guide. The one I was using today was on loan while they fixed my motor guide under warranty. This is 2012 and 2013 new equipment that is breaking without ever touching anything. Don't know how I can pin that on myself for not having the best equipment. Both the Minn Cota and the Motor Guide were the top of the line. Both just burned out. That is why they have a warranty. In the end it is my fault. My junk broke. If you knew me, money is NEVER the issue. If I get a flat I trade in the truck. I ordered a new 2014 rig last week, but the troller still may go out. If it does its my fault. johnboy2bfishin Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Thanks for all the advice and reports Bill, it helps a guy like me who doesnt get to the water nearly enough, but what you post allows me to eliminate a lot of water and get after it. Dropped the ranger at baxter this morning(figured it would be a little easier to get out of the wind- not the case). morning started slow fished fluke, blade and c-rig dr. worked on several transition and stagiong locals. was tuff no bites, moved to some secondary points in the afternoon wind started draggin the fish dr with the boat setting in 30ft then the bites started nothing to brag about, but did have a great day of just catching fish
Bill Babler Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Glad to see that drag bite starting. Has pretty much just been staging stuff. It was still for us today, with mostly sows out in the deep trees. Most reports from the in close stuff are Bucks, up on the prowl. Thanks for the great report and info. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Windy day for a paddle. Must have been the day for it. Thought I had a bearing going , looked ugly thru the hub, so pulled slowly from BPS to Kim City. Fine. Who knows. If you were behind me I apologize. These warm days should get them moving in. Just in time for the next weather. Water looks fantastic. If they do come in should be fun with all the old cover getting wet.
