A little off the subject, but does anyone else here fish the Everett series? At the April tournament, the second place (I think it was the second might have been third) failed the polygraph and was disqualified. However, I never hear any formal response from the tournament director.

By not letting everyone one know what happened, the tournament director is doing someone a disservice. Either the rest of us by not publicly identifying a cheater, or the gentleman who was disqualified if it was due to technicality such as kill switch mistake, etc.

Everett-Maxey Tournament Director issued an email to everyone that is on the offical email list (participants) the Monday or Tuesday after the tournament laying out what happened, if I remember correctly. I've sent him a note asking if it would be ok to share that here.

Please don't take offense to that, fellas - I try to be really careful and midful of others' information. I've got a couple of spots to this day that I can't / won't share with anyone because when I was shown, a buddy would say something like "Hey Joe, this is one of my favorite spts, so it's just you and me, ok?" I figure lots of folks know about the spots, but I want to always be know as trustworthy.

I would imagine that since the info was put in an email to over a coulpe hundred people, that "privacy", as it were, shouldn't be assumed. But, out of respect for the Director, I'll wait to hear from him.

Jolicious -

Sorry for the misinformation. I for whatever reason must have either not received or accidentally deleted the email.. I have received all the others he has sent out regarding results and standings, but did not see that one. Thanks for the correction.

EDIT - Just went back to my deleted emails and found the email from the tournament director addressing the situation.

It's funny how up in arms people get about these things. I realize folks pay money to fish them and what not, but if you invited me to a poker game with a substantial buy-in where everyone got to bring their own deck of cards, or got to play cards from behind a partition where I couldn't see them, then thanks but no thanks. Look, I've fished in a tournament where you could take off when you wanted, on the honor system, and there were no livewell checks and you could put in where you wanted. It was the Smackover Drum Rodeo.

What's even more funny is my friends who run the Rogers-Lowell Chamber who are fielding calls from pissed off participants who read a rumor on an internet blog that the folks who beat them by 15lbs were....wait for it....cheating!!!!

There's nothing in this world more disgusting than a liar, thief, or a cheat. I wouldn't play cards with one for sure. And if there's one group who's known for fudging more than card players, is anyone shocked that it's "tournament" bass fishermen? Someone here suggested earlier that the year following a win, the top 5 should be followed by marshalls. What would that do? So the cheater has to either not come back, or come back and get watched while they catch a few bass but don't win? Do they have to validate by finishing in the top 10 the second year?

It sucks, and I certainly feel for all the folks who fished on the up and up and got beat by a bunch. I've been in that boat. But the bottom line is if you don't like it, don't play the game. OR, take the initiative and ask the powers that be to implement procedures to curb this kind of thing. If they don't want to take the necessary steps (and they probably don't because they don't care about the tournament aside from the fact that it raises much needed money), then the only thing you can do is not fish in it next year and hope others follow suit.

I think people have a reason to be up in arms. 15,000.00 First place is not a small prize for your average angler nor is tournament entry fee. 285 boats I beleive entered in the tournament thats what 42,000.00 and change. If the officials even had a reason to beleive anyone not just the winners but anyone has a less than honorable reputation they should never allow them.

I look at it this way the odds of winning should be 1 in 285 but if potential cheaters are allowed in the odds are probably more like 0. I would be up in the tournament officials and sponsors faces asking them why would they allow it and everyone in the tourney has that right. People keep saying its fun but I know many guys when they enter a tourney that are in no way there for fun they are there to win! I know many guys myself included who were the most helpful and kind people but put them in compitition and you wouldnt want ot be near them, a switched flips and they are something else.

Again I want to see Hard Proof if in this case the guys are black listed from a lakes tournaments and if so then the Anglers and Sponsors need to be in the tournament Officials face demanding to know why they were allowed in this tournament. Hopfully if they are getting the calls they might wake up and make changes for next year.

Best thing to do, as someone mentioned above, if you think this thing is being dominated by cheaters, don't fish it.

The point of this tournament is to raise money for the chamber to promote Rogers as a place to live, work and start a business. They do a good job at that and are not in the business of running fishing tournaments.

If I was to set up a bake sale it would never compare to Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kream but I would not want to compete with them just a way to get people to donate to the cause.

I would put this in the category of donating to the cause, like getting a car wash by the Little League then complaining about the outcome. If you really need a detal why let the little league do it?

If you really want a to fish tournaments that what BASS and FLW is in business to do, the chamber just needs donations and if this becomes too much of a problem they will find another way to do it. They have even had wake board tournamenst and I sure don't want o catch on....

And get by with cheating.

I guess I should tell my kids, since their not in professional sports, ran by a professional organization , that it would be ok if they cheat if they don't get caught. Seriously?!

If these guys fish just for this tournament and they are fourtunate to spend several days on the water leading up to the event then they could very well have caught what they have caught. I know the guy who won the KVD in march a couple of years ago and me and few club buddies asked him to fish some club tournaments with us and he told us for the 4 months that we asked him no I am putting all of my fishing time for the KVD. I can understand the attitude towards getting your butt kicked by the same anglers but IF they are putting their time in several weeks leading up to the tournament then I can see it being possible for them being successful. Time on the water is essential.
