dtrs5kprs Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 First day out of family trip, fished 515 or so to about noon with my short man. Some topwater, couple of nice keepers on a bigger swimbait around shad and sporadic chasers, some scrounger fish. Everything else relatively shallow, bank out to 25' or so on the Ned Rig. Better keepers were brown fish, one just over 18" that had a freshly bloody tail and was spraying, and one just short of 19". Two of the 7 were squeakers, rest were 16-17" and change. W had his best smallmouth of his 8 years with the 18" fish, and caught his first meanie. They were a treat, found a little place where we caught 5 or 6 of them in about 15 or 20 minutes. One tiny K let us hit the full slam on the Ned. Spent about the first 3 hours intentionally not throwing the little rig, but it won out in the end. Threw a lot of different things just checking. Ended with north of 20 with 7 keepers. Will spend a lot more time with the little rig tomorrow.
Members danop69 Posted June 4, 2013 Members Posted June 4, 2013 Nice report. Congrats to your little guy on his nice smallie and the meanie! I'm sure it was an exiting moment for him! Look forward to hear how the rig does for ya tomorrow. Good luck and enjoy the family time! Be there the last week of June....hope the rig and top water bite is still happening! Dan
Quillback Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Very nice! Good to hear you're getting the family into the fish.
Champ188 Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Enjoy the visit, Dave. Glad they are biting for you guys.
magicwormman Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Good report Dave!! How long are you down for? If you have time...........give me a call.............417-527-2470. Thanks, Ken
dtrs5kprs Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Ken...will try to give you a call if kids give me time. We mostly played with fin fish today, Emily had her first encounter with the fin and did not want to go back to the Ned. Still had solid keepers on the Ned though. If you fish it hard should not be a big deal to get 5. Keepers on it today were blacks, 17" or so. We were pretty casual with it and spent more time off the bank winding the fin for suspended fish we saw on the graph, or saw popping shad. Visual input was the ticket today.
fishingaddiction Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Great report, sounds like the fishing was good, and congrats to your kids on the fish they caught. Ned Rig has been a very solid contributor for me over the last two weekends (including many keeper jaws, and several LM over 4 lbs.) Top water bite has been outstanding, and still getting plenty of suspended fish on the grub. Are you fishing the K city area? Thanks. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.

motoman Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Great report Dave!......speaking of the fin, check your email, I sent a bit of a scavenger hunt for the kids with map pix and everything. - If you can't check your email down there, let me know and I'll PM it over.

Have not seen it yet, but still looking. Was it on the bank or out in the lake?
