It is telling that we are focusing our outrage on an otherwise normal individual, than on the reality he exposed. Lying, cheating, and stealing by an enormous government entity is secondary to punishing a tattle tale.

"We are collecting profile records of everyone and we need it to be a secret".

Why? Not why collect info, but WHY is it important for it to be a big secret ? Who didn't already assume that this was going on anyway?

Treason by snowden? I don't see the harm in what he did.....just seems stupid and a waste of time. He should just waited until he retired....not that him disclosing it NOW is gonna change anything.

You would think that, but... we used to track Bin Laden by his cell phone. Then one day someone leaked this "not a big secret", and the cell phone went cold. Think about how much blood and money we would have saved if Bin Laden had is phone on after 911.

What a lot of people don't understand is how data is collected is as important as the data. The bad guys who really know what they are doing (think about that) can determine a lot from the how to include how to steal it and use it against us.

Treason... Now he told the Chinese what we may or may not be doing against them. That sounds like treason to me. PS... The Chinese who use this technology to steal corporate information that may or may not cost Americans thier jobs... maybe yours someday.

No sense arguing with one of your midnight logic test, but what the hell... Let's assume that this "bad guy" entity you are referring stopped four attacks since 911 (I have no idea on a number, just picking one out of the sky). Think about how much the general public would be willing, or even demanding, limiting your freedoms to keep the fifth attack from happening. Also, think about how much the general public, after the fourth attack, would be SCREAMING that the intelligence community wasn't doing the job they were paid to do.

Take a minute... and really think about those two points.

Finally, most people are freaking out about collecting the telephone numbers. Did you know... that Supreme Court settled this law a while ago. The number you dial from and the number you dial to is a public record from a public system and not afforded Fourth Admendment protections. That was what Snowden brought to light.

I once had a boss who said there are two types of military operations. Successfull and intellgence failures. There is a ton of truth to that.

joeD, yeah to bad he wasn't around in June of 1944 to let the world know the lying Allied troops were really going to invade at Normandy rather than at Calais where Hitler thought we were and moved a major number of Nazi troops away from Normandy.

Is he a traitor? Jury is still out here. I doubt it is a shock to anyone with reasonable intelligence that our government is collecting data on everyone. What he has done is awaken many people who don't think about these things. The other thing he has done by making this a talking point at the forefront of Americans today though is make them think and wonder what other ties there may be.

IRS Scandal could they have the same information its not a far fetched conclusion that if its on a government storage computer its possible.

Bengasi, so many unanswered question but if the government has the information which again logical to believe they did then they lied to us at the onset saying it wasn't terroristic.

Fort Hood shooting. His records could show him to have been a terrorist at what point with the government intel records ( phone internet ) it could turn this from Obongos " workplace violence" to Combat related giving those servicemen the purple hearts and benefits they should be getting.

The scandals in DC and this current government is like a domino line falling down. How high does it all go?

At one point I would have been telling people and did to put on their tinfoil hats and watch out for black helicopters and Drones. Now im starting to see as are many that they were not conspiracy nuts but actually right. This is waking people up and angering them. Finally now people are seeing Obamacare and what its going to do and doing! To many people in this country believe they are entitled to so many things I have had people say its in our declaration of independence and constitution. I just have to ask what the hell are they being taught in school or where are they getting these ideas. You are entitled to 3 things in this country you are protected by the bill of rights but our politicians are abusing the constitution and bill of rights! Honestly the only thing left from the Bills of rights left for them to mess with is putting troops in our houses. Grr there goes my rant

Oh, I so want to jump in the waters on this one, but I will remain silent for now.

We just get a run around. The NSA director and the congress is saying they aren't keeping anything but phone numbers, no names, no other informatiom. But they can get the name and have the FBI investigate it if a number shows up on the other end of a suspicious overseas number. Sounds good if you're 5 years old, but why do they need the numbers now? Couldn't they just find out the name of the individual from the phone company, through a warrant, when there is real probable cause?

I don't buy it and it doesn't pass the common sense test or the smell test.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

F&F,

I was trying not to get into the middle of this because it is a touchy subject. My point is the dude didn't do what he did because he is a government contractor, and one should not assume I'm out to do bad because I am one.

Mike

Whoever trusted a 20-something single dude with "highly classified and vital info" should be the one with a foot up their a$$.

Seriously, that dude shouldn't have even been trusted to fetch lunch.

Mic, I have had goverment contracts there is no difference between a goverment contract and a personal aka civillian in my book except for the million regulations and other wonderful things you have to do to get the goverment contract.

I dont see it as a goverment contractor issue but more of a "goverment" issue. Who the heck hires a high school drop out to handle the most important information for any company? That is pure stupidity let alone information that can affect a nation. The goverment is at blame! Even if the company said "ok" he has the skills and knowledge to do the job there are still redflags all over this guy from reports from all kinds of sources.

The irony is the spys who are suppose to know the bad guys and see the redflags didnt bother looking in their own house.

Makes you wonder what else is going on and no way to seperate this story from so many others going on now as there are links to each from each so its starting to appear.
