Wayne SW/MO Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Well it would be hard for me to agree, I'm only here because of docs and improving medicine. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Feathers and Fins Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 I just got the call from the doctor and it is confirmed Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. The only place I could have got it was in Springfield MO on an appointment I had. Found the tick that evening. I am in better health now ( well before the bite ) than I was before my heart attack 40 pounds lighter and in much better shape and this thing has knocked me out. If you get bit by one go get checked out and the blood work. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
kjackson Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I'm thinking that getting the blood work done will be part of my annual check-up, unless I start showing symptoms. I've pulled six ticks off me so far this year--the last one last night. When it gets a bit drier, I'm going on a massive leaf-burning program around the house as every time I do anything with the accumulated leaves, I find the little buggers hanging on somewhere. Spray sort of helps, but it doesn't always.
strangercreek Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Glad you have it under control F&F. I haven't gone mushroom hunting in the last few years because I just can't deal with ticks anymore...use to think I didn't like snakes, they don't bother me at all, ticks are my main fear. I don't know if this is a wives tale or not, but it really does seem like all your previous tick bites start itching when you get a new one.... I've tried everything, skin-so-soft, OFF, etc, I always get them.....
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 The only place I could have got it was in Springfield MO on an appointment I had. Found the tick that evening. You could have gotten it there, but the little bastages can wander around for a long time finding just the right spot. If you can't get bit anywhere in southern MO or northern AR, you aren't trying hard enough. If you're in need of an invasion, come to my yard. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 7, 2013 Root Admin Posted August 7, 2013 I heard years ago you can get a vaccine for Lymes. Googled it and found http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/ The vaccine was discontinued in 2002 because of low demand. I remember telling a good friend who was always getting tick bites he should get the shot. But he said it was too expensive - I think it was about $300 for an annual shot.
Quillback Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Hope you get better soon F&F, did they give you an estimate for recovery time?
Feathers and Fins Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 Ya doc has me in house till Monday. wants the full 10 days of antibiotics to work, fine by me I got plenty of walleye in the freezer to hold me over and just found some more Goose Jerky ( I dam well know my wife had it hidden lol ) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
drew03cmc Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 With Lyme, they gave me 30 days of antibiotics. Now I spray the hell out of any exposed skin below the waist before venturing too far. Andy
