mic
Every good Republican should have a liberal friend, and I can be yours. So to help all of my backwoods republican friends: Obama was not the President in 2005 when Catrina hit the Gulf. A recent poll in Lousiana showed that 28% of Republicans blamed the poor response to Catrina on Bush. Not really suprising as there was a lot of things that went wrong, and a lot of people to blame. HOWEVER, 29% blamed Obama and 44% weren't sure if Obama or Bush was to blame for the poor government response. So if you get a call from a pollster. Obama was a yankee Senator in 2005 and did not work in the executive branch. It is a trick question.
Feathers and Fins
Im not sure of your point or why you would put this up even. But GET REAL! The Governor of the State at the time was Kathleen Blanco a democrat! The Major of New Orleans was Ray Nagin a democrat! Our President was George Bush a republican! ALL OF THEM as far out as a week were saying GET OUT! It is not any of the politicians fault that people were absolutely stupid enough to stay especially when so many opportunities to leave were there, so much time and government agencies were providing ways out. There is always stupid people who think they can ride out a hurricane and sometimes they are ok. Katrina was no small hurricane and had been followed closely by all the media and her power was well know and the devastation she would bring. I get sick and tired of hearing about her and anything related to it. Government couldn't get in to places any government agency the devastation was unreal. The fault is not on any of the politicians or government agencies Local, Parish, State or Federal! It clearly is on the idiots who tried to grab a tiger by the tail and thought they would be fine. As to the polls same Idiots are probably the ones being polled who tried to play with the tiger. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Ham
I was born in Bation Rouge in 1962. I grew up having relatives come up and stay with us when hurricanes threatened the llower parts of the state. In an amazing coincidence, we were visiting friends in Mobile, Alabama in 1970. We left because Cammile was coming and the VAST amount of local folks had no clue what was coming. They took a beatdoown. At 8 years old, I learn that you have to flee went hurricaines are bearing down on you. I have no idea why so many people refuse to learn this lesson. I will disagree with F&F in two regards. 1) a vast amount of money was spent on leveee boards that were supposed to oversee and maintain the levees. Over time these appointments became political plums handed out to the well connected and the money went into their pockets rather than towards levee safety. So corrupt local politicians bear some of that responsibility. 2) There were evacuation plans. Lots of time and money had been spent planning for this type of emergency. In large part these plans were scrapped and people made decisions on the fly. That did not work out so well. That falls at the feet of the people that should have been in charge. Feathers and Fins
Ham I have to disagree with you. Though your first point is valid in regards to the levee system. As to the evacuation system and routes. It is the PEOPLES FAULT. 7 Days+ notice was given, and that is more than enough time for everyone to have got out of the coastal towns especially one thats a big toilet bowl that as any plumber knows gets its water from the tank above and in its case below it and to its side. When you see a mouse riding on top of a cat on the back of a dog, dont ask why FOLLOW because something bad is coming! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
