Members Col Ron Posted September 6, 2013 Members Posted September 6, 2013 After reading several previous posts, I would like to set the record straight. I talked to Fish and Game who confirmed that chumming with corn is legal outside of the catch and release area by the B.S. dam. As a guide, I am embarrassed that other guides & fisherman take gallons of corn containers, or several 12oz cans of corn, out there and chum fishing areas. It is unfortunate, extremely bad for the fish, not to mention taking the fishing out of fishing. Until the Game and Fishing Department wake up and set the same standards for chumming for corn in the C & R area for the rest of the river, this disgraceful conduct will go on. Chumming should be outlawed, Period... We need to cherish this resource. The people who chum will not change their lazy ways. That's why we have to make laws to ban unethical behavior. Anyone looking for a guide, choose one who cares about our precious resource,,,,PLEASE.

grizwilson Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Seen a guy on Taney with a 50# bag of fish chow, seemed to be catching pretty good.....guess that is catching rather than fishing. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein

It makes no sense to outlaw "shuffling" but allow chumming. I only brought it up because I didn't want people to think that he was doing something illegal. I haven't talked to Paul personally about this catch but I heard it was a pink gulp style worm. http://ozarksweetwater.com
Quillback Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 As far as the White, below Bull Shoals, why would you even need to chum?
Ham Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 As far as the White, below Bull Shoals, why would you even need to chum? You don't. You don't need Power Bait either. They both just make it really easy for guides to help non fisherman catch a few trout. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members Col Ron Posted September 7, 2013 Author Members Posted September 7, 2013 Trigg, I am not suggesting anything about Paul and the fish he or his client caught.
Members go4ducks2 Posted September 8, 2013 Members Posted September 8, 2013 So thats how they catch big browns on the White, I new there was a trick. It doesn't matter anyway, the White is NOT a waterway natural to brown trout, all manmade and browns are not indigenous to Arkansas, so no matter how big of a brown you catch.....IT DON'T COUNT..........., its all manipulated by man, pretty much the same as chumming if you think about it. Just my opinion, not here to defend it, just trying to throw another perspective into the light. I do agree no chumming AND although I'm a fly guy I think there should be single hook only NO barbs.......the dropper stuff, thats about the same as chumming. Its all in how you perceive "how it should be". Yea, I'm probably crazy but I can be, I'm old....LOL
laker67 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 I tip my hat to the people who jumped on board and wished this guy a big hearty wow or a congratulations for a fish of a lifetime. but, it seems like most times a two page article get started on how this guy should have done this or should not have done that. Chum, no chum, discredit the guide, its not native so it doesnt count. Come on people. This guy caught a huge fish and it is no small feat to land a fish of that caliber.
