Haris122 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Kind of went on a tangent asking this in a gigging related topic in general forum, but since it's most similar to carp out of the choices there are, I wanted to see just what kind of rigging and bait to use if I wanted to catch some suckers with rod and reel. Also been wondering if there's a way to substitute artificial lures, such as plastic worms or crawfish, for the real deal, while still having a reasonable chance of fooling them some of the time?
Ham Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I've fooled a few using trout worms, real worms, and small jigs but it wasn't anything consistent at all. I wish I could catch more of them. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
bfishn Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 They should be the easist fish to fool of all, considering they're "suckers". I can't dance like I used to.
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Worms on the bottom no doubt. You can also buy grabbing hooks to use in clear water. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Greasy B Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Today we used a night crawler on a number 1 circle hook, let half of them go and still have enough for breakfast tomorrow. Ham Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 How in the world do you keep the panfish off your bait long enough for a sucker to find it? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I'm assuming they are talking clear water flows where the sucker inhabit the shallow mid river areas. The perch seem to avoid these areas, probably evolutionary insurance against herons. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
