That's an interesting looking little WW.  Being a huge tungsten beadheaded crackle back fan I gotta say....I like it!

Grizzly hackle tip for a tail ?

Any other weight under the body?

I need to play with that one.  Thanks.  I may be more in favor of a married clump of teal flank fibers though, just because the hackle tip seems like it would be too stiff.  Obviously not though if you hammered them on it.

If you're going to fish them without a sinking leader I would definitely throw on some lead wire on. As far as the tail, I was recommended by someone to actually use dry fly hackle as it does stay stiff. Maybe, like you said, some flank fibers would be good too! Definitely worth messing around with as either way it'll catch a fish.... eventually.

I tried making a fly tying video the other day and actually used this fly. If you want to check out the materials in more detail just skim through the vid here:

Disclaimer: I could only find really repetitive music (copyright issues) and I totally botched the body hackle up when I brought the wire through  Was a a bit nervous for no reason haha

A cool little tip on herl bodies:.  After tying it in wrap it around your thread 3-4 times then grab herl and thread together and Palmer it forward.  Makes it totally indestructible and negates the need for counter-wrapped wire.

I do this with mohair too, or any other body wrap that has no stretch.

You can also tie herl AND hackle in, wrap it all together around your thread.....and do it all at once.   That's how commercial tyers whip out Griffith's Gnats at the speed of light.  😉
