Al Agnew Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 The thing about this whole mess is that compromise is not really possible. The Republicans want to get rid of the ACA; that's their starting point, and they would do it by whichever way they could, whether it be repeal, postponement until they hope they get a majority in the Senate in the next election and can repeal it, defunding it, or whatever. Where is THEIR room for compromise? The Democrats can only compromise by agreeing to postpone it, which could effectively kill it. So it's really pretty much an either/or thing with little middle ground. If both sides could ever agree that it's not going away but really needs tweaking and improvement in many areas, and agree to work together to fix the problematic parts, then there would be room for lots of compromise, but they can't do that from their starting points right now. Every other piece of major health care legislation, such as Medicare and Medicaid, went through that process after it was passed, but that was a different time. Now, ideology on both sides rules the day...most Republicans think it's the worst thing that ever became a law, and most Democrats think it's absolutely necessary. "Compromise" and "discussion" are just words they throw around to pacify their less than enthusiastic voting blocks to convince them that they could work it all out if it wasn't for those demons in the other party. That's my opinion, anyway.
Flysmallie Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 .most Republicans think it's the worst thing that ever became a law, and most Democrats think it's absolutely necessary. If that's what they truly think then that's one thing. But it's more of that's what they have been told/paid to think. The government is corrupt on both sides. Â Â

Justin Spencer Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Normally this is the point where the democrats give in to keep the country from spiraling downward. I for one am glad they are finally standing up for themselves instead of caving to republican pressure. I am not on board 100% with obamacare, but feel this should not have anything to do with passing a budget or the debt ceiling. I too think that Obama has shown he is a horrible leader who has not done much to help the matter, but I really think he has given up on his opposition ever being willing to truly work with him, and not looking to be re-elected he can do what he thinks is best without worrying about losing his job. If people choose to not participate in new health care program and instead rely on the American public to pay their medical bills in the event of a catastrophic illness, then just pay your $95 tax in 2014 and go about your life. There is no reason to postpone the law any longer, congress should spend their time improving it so that it will work better for everyone, not voting over and over again to repeal it. Feathers and Fins Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Justin I could agree with you IF it were not for the fact that; 1. the system is full of glitches and already there are some confirmed identity theft from it I believe it was Iowa or someplace like that. 2. the system cannot handle the volume 3. it is not a market place with competition it is ( Government only program ) 4. you cannot shop out of state for better pricing. ( depending on the state you are in it could cost from 112 a month to 798 a month those are for silver plan based on the little time I spent looking ) Why should one state be more than another for the same plan provided by the government? 5. Political exemptions 6. Big business exemptions Sorry but the first 4 say it needs to be delayed ( Delay is what they the House is asking for ) 1 year delay to get the bugs out and give the millions of Americans time to sign up. The last two do I really need to explain them? Read the above bill I posted that is what the Senate and President refuses to agree to. WHY wont they agree to a 1 year delay for the mandatory requirement and why do the exempt themselves and big business? Seems to me pretty cut n dry its not a ( repeal at all nor is it a defund as Obamacare is FUNDEED already ) its a delay and a removal of political exemptions. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
ScottK Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 . Let the federal workers suffer like the rest of the other sectors of the country have for the last little while. Gee thanks. I got a Fed job 5 years ago, after trying for many years after getting out of the Navy (And working 19 years in the private sector). Now, I know I'm just one of those nameless, faceless, darn Federal workers, but I take a tremendous amount of pride in my job and I'm now doing it without pay. Still required to go to work, but no check until the shutdown ends. Comments like yours annoy the living crap out of me.
Justin Spencer Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 We all know a delay won't do anything, they've had time to try to work on it but instead have worked to try and get it repealed over and over while telling the public how awful it is. Maybe once the law is enacted they will quit trying to repeal and try to improve. I have run out of patience with putting everything off until later. If we all procrastinated like congress nothing would function. Gee thanks. Good hardworking people who take pride in what they do. Keep up the good work, and ignore those who don't know the difference between the boobs in Washington, and the hard working people that keep our much needed government running. fishinwrench Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Regardless of who you strive to go to work for there are going to be goods/bads. If you're self employed there are risks and drawbacks, and if you choose to take a government job there are goods/bads. Factory workers never know when they'll be cut loose. Being self employed I often work for months without a paycheck. You just have to adjust the way you live for awhile, it's not THAT bad. As hard as I try I can't work up a single tear for the furloughed few. Enjoy your stupid vacation, or spend it looking for a "more secure" career if the anxiety is upsetting you.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Obamacare is a disaster, even the author called it that. The good thing about it is that the Republicans can't eliminate it without a replacement. The chance for a truly workable bill is now. With the houses split a workable compromise bill should be possible, the only obstacle would be harry Reid who believes he is "THE SENATE". Obama would jump on a bill that worked, didn't give Republicans all the credit and that he signed into law during his reign. Lets face it not a day goes by that some new misrepresentation doesn't arise. The lowest cost insurance is going to cost 5K plus before anything is paid by the plan, at least according the news and no one seems to dispute it. There are too many not in the overall plan to keep it viable. The idea that pre existing conditions would covered requires people paying and not drawing out with some balance and ity doesn't appear the balance is there after all the exempted parties opt out. You don't understand how it works. If you work for the government the common people insure that you get a paycheck as long as they are working. This goes against all that right, not to mention that someone might question what they have been doing given the fact nothing piled up on their desk while they were gone. I think that's a big fear for many. The 60-70% doing the work are going to be missed and the others might have to pick up the pace. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
