Saw the mention of Solunar Tables in another thread earlier today. I haven't notice a real correlation between those and actual results, except somewhat around spawn. Have had poor days when tables indicated "excellent" (probably just my lack of ability) but have had amazing days when tables show "poor" (just a lucky day for me?). I know many swear by them for fishing & game activity but I don't pay much attention to them. My "Tables" tell me to go whenever I can.

Ignore them...but keep a fishing log for a month. Note the date, temps (air & water), weather, times fished, and if possible, times you caught the majority, or multiple fish. Then go back and look at the Major (Moon Overhead) and Minor (Moon Rise) times of the day and see if there is a correlation between catching fish and those times. Odds are (baring major frontal activity, or other outside factors) that Major & Minor Periods will coincide with increased fish activities. As far as Moon Phase, maybe, maybe not. But I'm a believer in the Peak times of Major and Minor periods.

I don't pay that much attention to them, I just go when I'm able to go. If I'm planning to go tomorrow morning and I happened to look at the solunar tables and the tables predicted it was going to be slow, I'd still go. And if the fishing turned out to be bad, then I'd have something to blame it on :D .

Back in my salmon fishing saltwater days, tide phases were very important as to where the fish would be, lots of current was generated by tidal conditions.

I certainly believe there are activity periods and lulls but I don't believe they can be predicted by the times the sun and moon rise and set. JMO

I have found two reliable patterns regarding fish activity. When I am on the lake there is most often a great lull in the bite. Plus, before I arrive and after I leave there is always a remarkable spike in fish aggressively feeding on any and all baits. For a small fee I can put you on a great bite based upon my schedule. :slow:

Substantial amount of factors affecting fishing. Right off the top of my head here they go:

season - spawn, pre, post

time on the water

time of day

weather

water clarity

depth of fish

feeding pattern

structure

species of fish

food source

water temperature

lure color

lure depth presentation

retrieve pattern

boat traffic (sometimes lots of traffic is good)

confidence

luck

lastly - solunar tables

I believe solunar tables are a factor, but not a major decision maker. I agree with an earlier reply, go fishing when you can. The more time on the water the better the chance of finding all the conditions favorable.

I'm sure I missed a few factors.

Enjoy your fishing.

yep, and ignore a major time period and be no where close to a good spot in that time window, and never, ever, never throw a big spinnerbait on a windy, big rock bank, in the fall.

X2 I did the same thing and had the same results then I would check before I went but never delay or not go based on the tables of course I caught fish outside of the major period but I found the short time catches of more than a limit usually came during major periods.

I fished a lot of farm ponds back then and my fishing buddy believed fish bite was better when the cattle were grazing. I never told him that was usually during the major solunar periods Of course he was almost as hardheaded as me..........

Here is what I have learned with my few limited days fishing a decade.

1. Fullmoon period fish from 2pm till your mom starts flickering the porch light at night.

2. If the wind is from the East and you are grown up and married, stay home do honey-do's or spend the day doing what the wife wants.

3. If the winds from the South Fish before the wife is up and be home to spend time with her.

4. #3&4 are gods way to keep momma happy for married men and we all know if momma aint happy?

5. Wind from the North fish the points and flats

6. Wind from the Best um I mean West! Go long, go hard, and catch like a Dog.
