hoglaw Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 I have a really busy few weeks coming up so I don't think I can take the reigns on logistics. I'm just going to have to battle to be able to make it that weekend, but I'll make it a priority. Looks like we already have a place to stay. As far as headcount, count me in +1. Same deal, fiancee and I will want our own room. If that means renting more than the lodge we're talking about, that's fine by me. I will be happy to bring whatever food. In fact, my "specialty" is dark roux sausage gumbo, so I'll make a big pot of that and bring rice. That will feed a dozen people easily, particularly as a side to whatever Phil is talking about bringing.. I will bring my boat. Fiancee and I +1 can ride for sure, maybe +2. I like to fly fish but fiancee doesn't care to and I'm not a very good teacher, so we normally throw jigs and jerkbaits. I think a fish fry on Saturday night is a great idea, and judging from pictures Little Red has plenty of fish. I will be happy to bring/pay for any accompanyments you want. As much as I like a big giant breakfast on these kinds of trips, I don't like cooking it. I'm a roll out of bed, eat something small and get on the river kind of guy. I'd also suggest that each party bear responsibility for his/her own lunch. My fiancee normally makes up a bunch of chicken salad from a walmart rotissery chicken and we eat that for lunch in the boat. So between whatever meat Phil is bringing plus gumbo and rice from me, we may be squared away for Friday dinner. Fish fry should knock out Saturdday night, but Little Red needs to let folks know what htey can bring. Breakfasts are still an issue, and everyone can bring their own sandwich stuff for lunch.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 13, 2013 Root Admin Posted November 13, 2013 I was just going to bring a few smoked chickens. Can bring more if necessary. Bringing a jon. Can fish me and 2 more. Fly or spin- don't care. I'll probably get there first thing Friday morning and fish all day. Saturday, I'll have to pull out about 10 am and head home. Have friends in from OK that I need to spend time with Saturday.
gotmuddy Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I will smoke a brisket friday. I can handle the logistics. Maybe instead of the lodge we can rent one of the bigger cabins. I can also bring my 16ft canoe and two kayaks if necessary. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
gotmuddy Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 BTW I dont fly fish....yet so I will be slinging jigs and jerk baits. **edit** I may bring my camper up so my wife and son have a place to stay there. Looks like so far we have Phil, Quillback, Hoglaw +1, myself, and my wife for a total of 6. hopefully we can round up more people. I have a friend or two who might come. Maybe Terrierman will come down?? everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Hey guys, Sounds great. I think I can make it and I'm willing to help with food and/or money. I flyfish, no boat though. Pete
gotmuddy Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 SIO3 makes 7. I do not care at all to ferry fly fishermen to a spot or let them fish in my boat either. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
hoglaw Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Little Red makes 8 I think. Riley's Station is right where the Buffalo comes in, right? If so, there's some great wading/fly water right around there, and upstream from the Buffalo City access where I destroyed the intake on my jet one time. I don't mind ferrying folks either, so anyone who just wants to wade and fish should be in pretty good shape and have quite a bit of river to yourself.
hoglaw Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Of course my last post assumes the river will be wadeable in December. Who knows what kind of water we'll be seeing then.
gotmuddy Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 yes, the riley's place is on the back side of the island. there should be plenty of wading for those wanting to. I like staying dry in my boat. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
LittleRedFisherman Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 As far as the fish fry, I've got the fish covered, hope all of you like flathead? Most do, but I may bring some channel cat fillets as well, most of my flathead was caught out of the St. Francis river (Delta version), and some from that Mississippi river trip. I also cook up my own potato wedges that are pretty good, I'll have all that to. If someone wants to get some slaw, like from Wal Mart, or a local grocery, that's always good with fish, and of course drinks, but there will probably be plenty of. I'm pretty sure I can make this work with me going on the 14 as long as something drastic doesn't come up.. I'll bring my L48, if someone has an extra spider seat, I could take 3 with me! I'm bringing my flyrods i'm sure i'll try to sling some, but would love to zig jig some with Ham, Hoglaw and Cody, and try to refine my skills with the zig jig!! Sounds like fun, can't wait!! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
