Al Agnew Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I'm still not understanding you...if you have wrap-around 1.5 mag single vision lenses, just how do you plan on using them? You're not going to be able to see well at a distance with them on. If you need polarized glasses for fishing, it would seem to me to mean that you have to carry two pairs around your neck and switch depending upon whether you're tying on a lure or actually fishing. You might be able to do what many people do with contact lenses...have the lens for one eye made for close-up vision and the other lens for distance vision. Your eyes eventually adjust to this somehow. Even if you have perfect distance vision and just need the magnification for tying on flies or something, it would still seem to me that bi-focals with non-corrective uppers and magnification lowers would be the best solution...I don't know whether such a thing is available. As for wrap-arounds, I don't know whether it's practical to make 1.5 mag wrap-arounds. I don't know whether an eye doctor could supply such a thing or not. I kinda missed the wrap-around part of your original post.
RSBreth Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I feel so blessed that I don't need glasses - yet. I loose them or break them so I just get the cheap 15 dollar or so Strike Kings. I don't see how polarized "readers" would work as well as bi-focals, but I don't have your eyes.
moguy1973 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Moguy, thx for the post. Seems like your wife had made what I am looking for. Just want a mild power 1.5 magnification made for polarized, wrap around sunglasses. Does that sound like what ur wife had?? Do u remember what the cost was?? Well, my wife has expensive tastes and she's pretty much blind without glasses or contacts so her prescription is rather extreme. I think that what you need would probably work. She ended up with designer Coach frames, and with the lenses they cost about $600 I think...LOL. The only thing that made it easier to swallow was we had extra FSA money to burn that we didn't use for medical fees and we would have lost it if we hadn't bought her the sunglasses... I'd go to your eye doctor, or even like lenscrafters or something and see what they have. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Gavin Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Pay for some prescription bi-focals...you need distance & close vision when you are fishing...Chris Vogler @ C-Sports Optical in Webster can make whatever you want in a polycarb lens. I like glass a bit better, but polycarbs are pretty darn good, and they weigh less.
joeD Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Maui Jim, Go to your eye doctor. He will know your prescription strength. Then order, through your doc, sunglasses from Maui Jim. It will cost quite a bit. Don't argue. You don't have a right to free or inexpensive sunglasses for fishing. If you want something good, then you have to pay for it.

ness Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I went through two pairs of polarized glasses this year. The first suffered from minor scratches that were irritating but tolerable until one more scratch that aligned perfectly with my line of sight made them unusable. The second pair I only owned for a couple of weeks when they were blown out of the boat on an incredibly windy day. No top dollar classes for me, $50.00 max. Greasy B Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I like the groovy colors but I'm too lazy for DYI. I just bought one of those stiff wire glasses keepers from a fly shop, that should do for now. That day the glasses flew out of the boat we were taking a lunch break on a high gravel bar when we noticed some garbage floating in the river, naturally I started to rant about slobs throwing crap in the river. The crap was mine, I recovered a hat, shirt and a plastic coffee cup, the glasses went to the bottom. The wind was so strong that day we fished each pool by starting at the bottom and letting the wind blow us up. moguy1973 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Greasy B, if you want a nice cheap pair of sunglasses that work really well for fishing and they FLOAT, check out http://www.fishgillz.com ...From time to time they have a BOGO free offer code, and it might even work all the time FISH5000. That makes it 2 pair of polarized wrap around sunglasses for about $54 shipped and they come with a free padded case and wipe cloth. They have worked great for me. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
