I'm in the market for a new spin casting fishing reel and am looking for suggestions. I'd like a reel that can handle getting wet and thrown around a little bit. I largely fish for smallmouth on various Missouri steams. Any thoughts?

Mottled, Are you talking spin cast or spinning reels?

Mitch, seriously ? :)

I found love with the ABU Gracia 503ALB for a beater, it handles the elements of canoe/truckbed/wading life really well.

The man says spin casting, just wanted to clarify! It's possible he was talking about a push button reel :)

Ya gotta take in ALL the information man. A dude looking to buy a spincast reel for smallies wouldn't even know what a Mottled Sculpin is, much less call himself that. LMAO

Though he might use one for bait....and call it a madtom. :)

Do not go overboard with spending. I have some I paid less then 20 bucks for. I fish them many days a year for a few years and throw them away. Buying a expensive reel might not be the thing if you do not fish it a awful lot. I have a friend that owns a reel repair business and he has a back counter loaded with expensive reels to repair both spinning and bait casting. I believe its because they are much more complicated and part failure is higher.
