dtrs5kprs Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Thanks Champ. Thats good to know! Im surprised that nobody has ever said anything to me about it (maybe thats why I caught so many off those docks haha). That said, I last fished those docks in probably 2008, so maybe the regs have changed since then. IDK, either way, thanks again for the info! I wont be tempting fate anymore over there, plenty of other good fishing around there. The Jewel boats were always all over the big docks around 13 ramp until the rule change. Can only assume they did very well to spend so much time in there. Actually there are no fish in Schooner Creek anymore. Move along...
mjk86 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Ya I really only fish the schooner creek/kimberling area because its so pretty.....the fishing is quite terrible
Members basscat123 Posted January 11, 2014 Members Posted January 11, 2014 Yeah I hear there aren't any fish in schooner anymore so there isn't any need in going in there. Fisher has the same problems
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I don't think a case would get to court concerning fishing at commercial marina. They don't allow you to skateboard on a highway and they ain't going to allow you to impede traffic at a commercial dock. It's a simple case of public safety. A few private dock owners get the idea that because the commercial docks can prohibit so can they, but their signs are meaningless because they have no authority in their lease. If they were smart they would realize this, some don't and some bluff. Many also do realize that just because they put a lawn to the waters edge that they can control it, technically they can't because it is public property to the flood control pool line. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

As a private dock owner, it was my understanding of the "private property" signs is intended for the structure itself, not the water. I will have to paymore attention for the "no fishing alllowed" type signs & ask the owner what's up with that ! Cause I fish them too ! Email me Red-Right-Returning is for quitters !
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I think the no fishing, swimming etc around the commercial docks is a good law. It's not like they take up a lot of the lakes area. I think we all know how congested they can get in the summer. It's hard enough to try and dodge all the boats there trying to get in and out without worrying about someone not paying attention or in the water. Billfo I understand the no trespassing and whether it's legal or not I don't know why anyone would have a problem with it. It would be no different then entering a beached boat. The signs claiming no fishing however are insulting at best for someone to believe they can control an area of the lake. The property between the power pool and the top of the flood pool belongs to everyone and if an owner wants to put a sign up he should put it on his property, not ours. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
buddygr53 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 In all the years I have been on the rock and fished docks ( 15) years not once have I been asked not to fish around a dock. Had a few stop and watch but not a word said.

Members Matt Henry Posted January 14, 2014 Members Posted January 14, 2014 It is my understanding that the no fishing signs outside the marina gas docks put the docks off limits for fishing tournaments. If your not fishing a tournament you can fish the docks. Who keeps you from doing so? Water Patrol? Conservation Agent? Coast Guard? I do not believe there is any enforcement. The commercial docks added the signs because most tournament rules will not allow you to fish we're there are posted no fishing signs. Matt Henry
Quillback Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Matt look at post #24 in this thread, Champ has quoted the COE rules on fishing around docks - it is against their regulations to fish commercial docks at all.
