Smalliebigs Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Looks like a Jazz guitar arrangement in E minor. Thinking Take Five...Dave Bruebeck. Jigs are easy to tie. Measure first, then tie in. Tight thread wraps. Yo Gavin....the jig depicted in number three is the jig you gave me and it worked extremely well.....is there any way I can give you $ to get material and make me some more???? I thank you in advance

Members Jeremi414 Posted December 30, 2013 Members Posted December 30, 2013 Very easy to tye!! Ive been tying flies for 22 years. Since I was 13. I have ATLEAST $4K in materials! My tying room looks like Feather Craft in STL. Who needs that spare bedroom anyway ?. I have been picking your guys brains on what materials work best for smallmouth jigs. Thanks to all!
Buzz Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Does anyone use pork chunks anymore? We used to use only Uncle Josh's 101 pork frogs with 1/8 oz. hair jigs in the winter. Black with a bit of chart., black with a bit of blue, straight olive, and olive with a bit of chart., and of course brown. We would tip them with black, black/blue, brown, or white with green spots pork frogs. Pork frogs are a pain to carry, but they have great action in cold water. Always caught fish. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Gavin Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Scott. Order up at least a 25 pack of 1/8oz Bite Me Jigs Standup heads and we can touch base next week. They are awesome in comparison to the cheap arse Arkie's. You will not be disappointed. Packing for an extended float/camp trip. No time to inventory my stash. Pick a date, bring some beers by Hargrove's, or swing by my place some evening and I'll show you how to tie them. You will want some Kevlar or GSP thread for the deer hair jigs. 6/0 uni-thread, or darn near anything else is suitable for bear, craft hair, rabbit jigs, or marabou. Practice whip finishing by hand to work around the weed guards. Mitch's jigs are awesome too. The sparse arctic fox, & marabou versions work great with the old trailer. Have a half dozen of Mitch's craws, but have not tried them out yet. I'm sure they work...saw Mitch catch plenty of smallmouth on one, outfished straight hair that day...Wish I had more Mitch jig heads...hint...will tie what you want on them.
Mitch f Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Wish I had more Mitch jig heads...hint...will tie what you want on them. Ok, I get the hint "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Seth Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 These aren't the bite me jigs but I know Walmart carries them so they are readily available. Would these work for tying rabbit hair jigs? I'm going to order some zonker strips (regular and crosscut) and tie up some hair jigs to try on the Gasconade. My buddy is a die hard Eakins jig user so it will be a good test to see if the hair jigs out produce the silicone jigs.

I guess you're right. We used to always use pork frogs in the winter. They did work well. They would also work nicely on those jigs that don't leave a lot of room to thread on a plastic bait and last a heckuva lot longer than nose hooking plastics. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
