TRRANGER Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Yes they do charge you to marshall, you are the eyes and ears for BASS if you will. You basically watch and send in weights over basstrac, a text system to keep up with the fisherman. I did it last year on Bull Shoals and it was a great learing tool for me. I viewed it as money well spent. I was paired with Hank Cherry, Kieth Poche, and Greg Vinson, each angler was a true professional and answered all my questions and showed me how and why the fish they were catching were at those spots. I learned some neat stuff. I really enjoyed it but would not do it on a lake I dont fish. It was really hard for me to watch as Hank caught over 100 fish on a jerkbait and not be able to get in on the action.
Sore Thumbs Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 That's the way I see it. You can't go anywhere for three days and learn what can be learned for $125. I agree with Tranger. If it was somewhere im not gonna fish I wouldn't have signed up. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
LarrySTL Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I was a marshall at Kentucky Lake in 2010. It was $ 100 then and I got in early enough that I got to be on the lake 3 days. It was absolutely worth every penny and BASS ran things well at the lake. I would do it again in a heartbeat, schedules permitting. I entered at the opening bell in 2010 because I was on the waiting list in 2009 and didn't get in. I had the same experience on the waiting list as others have described here, namely a total lack of any information. After several phone calls I was finally told that I was in a "you could get in but really not likely" spot on the list but by then it was close to the tournament so I let them hold the money. About 4 or 5 days before the tournament they called me and said I could "probably" get to fish if I was at registration but by then I had things at work I couldnt ditch plus I didnt want to try to figure out where to get a bed, take 2 days off work, and then drive 550 miles roundtrip for a "probably". http://intervenehere.com
Quillback Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 There is a marshal thread on another board and one of the guys who has been a marshal says the pros he has fished with have asked him for advice. Just curious if any of you who have been marshals have been asked for any fishing advice while out there on the lake during the tournament? Are there rules against asking the marshals for advice?
Gatorjet Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Where on Table Rock is this tournament held. Nobody has mentioned a marina. I could find nothing on the B.A.S.S. website. Is this some of what you are calling unprofessional? Or is this tournament so "elite" they don't eant "civillian" spectators at the weigh in? Real men go propless!
Sore Thumbs Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Gator. I have my paperwork at home but im pretty sure it's Table Rock State Park Marina. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Gatorjet Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Thanks. I was trying to find out for someone on another Branson forum wanting to attend the weigh ins. She said she went several years ago, and thought It was somewhere in Kimberling City. My guess was State Park Marina though. Real men go propless!
crazy4fishin Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 According to the paperwork that I got it is State Park and the last day the weigh in is at BPS on the landing Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker

None of the three guys asked me for advice or anything like that. I forget exactly how its worded but the rules prohibit the Elite guys from getting any information from anyone once the offlimits period begins unless that information is either a) available to the public, or is voluntarily given by another Elite guy who is also in the tournament. Quite a few of the Marshalls brought boats and fished during the practice period and at the rules meeting we were told "remember, if you have been on the lake, you cant tell any of the pro's anything about what you did or how you did it". http://intervenehere.com
