Chris King Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Well, found two jerkbait fish anyway. Fished around the house today (point 5/spring branch) from 12:30-3. Tried to find some deep fish but couldn't find any. Moved to the south bank, main lake channel bluff and let the wind push us down the lake. Had the boat sitting in 30' with 80' off the port side, paralleling the bank and throwing deeper diving jerkbaits around timber. Tried the grub at first but no takers. Switched to the jerkbait and caught a couple right off the bat, no size but it was a great day and got to watch the eagles soar overhead. Headed back out tomorrow and will probably head toward Kimberling and maybe further.
Quillback Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Congrats, the jerk bait fish are hard to come by so far - and it looks like it made that youngster happy, good job!
willyfish Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 From the looks of the photo you guys had a great day, its not always about "loading the boat" with fish. I was down in November throwing a jig in Little Aunts one morning when a group of river otters started popping their heads out of the water, kind of scared me for a second. Anyway they came right up by the boat and were just as curious as I was. Being out with the wildlife makes it all worth it.
Champ188 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Amen, guys. Those who don't take time to enjoy all of God's great creations are missing out on a big part of fishing. I don't catch enough fish to keep me occupied. Gotta have the eagles, deer, foxes, ducks, etc. to fill in the times between bites!
Billfo Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 river otters Wow, not that you mentioned, about 15 years ago I seen them around Aunts Creek as well..Then forgot all about them.. 3 years ago, we bought a place on Big Indian (near Baxter) and I had not seen any EVER.... Last year I seen a little MInk, but none of the large River Otters. I wonder if they just dont come down to my area... Do you know if the River Otters are native to Tble Rock ? I would think they would be everywhere..I enjoy the scenery and nature as much as fishing. Email me Red-Right-Returning is for quitters !
Sore Thumbs Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I had a neat experience one time with a raccoon. He was really close to the bank I was fishing. I caught a fish and threw it on the bank and he tackled it and started eating it immediately. Cool stuff. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Sore Thumbs Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Tell me if you if guys have experienced this? It's early morning and it's super quite. Then all the sudden one of those Herring birds shrieks real loud. That happened to me one time and almost loaded my shorts. Thought I was a goner. Lol Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Jerry Rapp Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 worse thing is night fishing and a beaver does its' thing within 10 feet of the boat.
Champ188 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Got that right, Jerry. I think the darkness somehow multiplies the sound by 10.
Chris King Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Got that right, Jerry. I think the darkness somehow multiplies the sound by 10. Don't forget bats dive bombing you at night and you just catch them out of the corner of your eye!
