Hunter53 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 The bills on all the new ones I have inspected have more of a squared off/flat front than the original warts do. I have not seen the HFC in person yet but the Brad's and the new 'original series' warts have the more square/flat bill. The new ones( both brad's and storm) also have a deeper ridge on the bottom of the bill. You can kinda see this in your pictures as well. I took a file to the bill on a Brad's and tried to match it up best I could to an original wart. With being able to walk on our water up here I have not had a chance to run them side by side to see how my butcher job on the Brad's worked out. Wish someone would come out with an exact replica of the old wart!
Mitch f Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Wish someone would come out with an exact replica of the old wart! Send one to me and I'll scan both the original and the new Koppers and do a color map comparison "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
dtrs5kprs Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 I actually made an RTV mold for a wart back when they changed. Cut one in half, and made a mold for each half. Made a couple with one of the alumilite resins (stuff Dahlberg uses in his videos), but it was a ridiculous pain to do.
Hunter53 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Send one to me and I'll scan both the original and the new Koppers and do a color map comparison Are you trying to say the Koppers is an exact replica?
Mitch f Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Are you trying to say the Koppers is an exact replica? No, what I'm saying is that if you want to document the differences between any two wart like baits, I can scan them and compare the differences. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Gavin Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Mitch can measure anything in 3D. Wonder if you can make an old school wart on a 3d printer.
Hunter53 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 No, what I'm saying is that if you want to document the differences between any two wart like baits, I can scan them and compare the differences. Ok. Maybe someone close to you can have you scan an old wart and see the differences between it and the supposed look alikes. That would be very interesting to see for sure.
Hunter53 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Mitch can measure anything in 3D. Wonder if you can make an old school wart on a 3d printer. That would be cool. I know nothing about 3d printers so I have to ask; how would it be able to have the body hollow?
abkeenan Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 That would be cool. I know nothing about 3d printers so I have to ask; how would it be able to have the body hollow? Would probably have to cut a wart in two and scan both halves. 3D print it and glue them together....just like they did back in the day at STORM.
Mitch f Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 It can be 3D printed but I wouldn't recommend it, too expensive unless you bought your own unit. The cheapest for that resolution requirement would be about $3500 for the machine. From what I've heard they used a special kind of plastic recipe when they made the Warts in Mexico, giving it a louder rattle.3D printers are limited right now to the materials used.
