dtrs5kprs Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Here's another option. At $4.29 works for me. It seems to work better and go deeper at a moderate retrieve as opposed to burning it. Very wart like. The crazy bugCRAZY BUG.jpg Tim...that's a BPS bait correct? Might have to give it a look. Hope you and yours are well. Learned more about hard baits and painting from you back in the old days at TU and elsewhere than from anyone else. Take care.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 They know it. I was hired to scan all of the original storm wiggle wart molds thru a vendor. I'm under NDA contract so mums the word. But I can tell you they are trying to improve it. I noticed the Lucky Strike Wart Hog knock off has a much different action than the wart. I'm looking forward to see if this new Live Target bait has the same hunting, re centering action as the old wart. FWIW, you can take a file and sharpen the lip to produce a hunting action on the new rapala Warts Have read in several places of the reasons for the change...Normark engineers, etc. You just have to think at some point, if only as businessmen, their pockets would have to start burning watching baits they "fixed" go for $20-$150 on the secondary market. If they could replicate the original...molds, plastic, rattles, hangers, etc...could they not sell that bait in the vicinity of the Koppers price point? As for the Koppers, their video is what sold me. Sure looks like a wart running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpdUY1OV51o
MeatintheFreezer Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Does anyone know when Rapala bought Storm, and how to identify a "pre-Rapala" wart versus a new one? I was cleaning out the boat today and found several wiggle warts I haven't used in years. It has been several years since I have been back that deep in the storage compartments! I also found a box of mud bugs & hell benders! Remember - If at first you DO succeed, try not to act surprised & quit while you're ahead.
Nitroman Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Please be " VERY QUIET " about the MUD BUGS, I am trying to keep them a secret. They are no longer made, very hard to find other than on E BAY & I have been catching fish on them for over 30 years. Not on Table Rock though, for some reason they just don't work on Table Rock, " HONEST THEY DON'T !!!!!!! " I SWEAR THEY DON' T !!!!!!! " WASTE OF TIME PLEASE DON'T TRY THEM " !!!!!!! All the pre-rapala warts will have wiggle wart stamped/printed on the underside of the bill/lip of the bait. The oldest models have "wiggle wart" stamped/printed on the side of the bait. All the new Rapala warts have the "Storm" logo on the underside of the bill/lip.

Your right on the BPS brand. Its really a nice little crankbait that I've caught lots of fish on. Don't have much to lose at $4.29. I loved the old days at TU. Looks like the student has become the teacher. Take care Buddy and God Bless. Tim

Take care Buddy and Go Bless. Tim I'm good. Have not been painting much since I took up the finesse stuff, too busy pouring 1/16oz heads and building ridiculously long and soft spinning rods. That occurred simultaneously with kids getting old enough to play sports. For anyone who doesn't know Tim, he went well out of his way to teach a lot of folks some very specialized skills, and pass on info many would have selfishly hoarded. Even at that, most of us are just poor imitators of his ability. Count me as grateful for having been acquainted with him. Hope His blessings are multiplied for you Tim.

bluebasser86 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Has anyone tried the Luck E Strike G5 (formally the Warthog) on Table Rock? I know the originals had problems with taking on water but this past year I gave them another try and was very impressed. Myself and several of my friends caught a bunch of fish on them in lakes in NE Kansas. Has the closest wiggle to my old warts that I've seen with good color schemes and for $3 apiece I'm not afraid to fish them. Hopefully I'll be down the first week of April so I can give them a try down there.
Quillback Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I haven't tried those Warthogs, as I saw so many reviews where people said they were crap.
