But do I think that the reaction to this report was necessary?

OTF this post was in response to an earlier one when others questioned the self anointed ones reasoning for pointing out a place where smallies were stacked up and easily reached without a boat. So it's not this smart a&&ed post, but the earlier one that wrinkles. He attempted to justify by claiming they were out of season and only stepped in deeper because they weren't out of season.

So the fact he doesn't post about any areas close to him, claims the season is closed, so all in all it's somewhat comical that the princess now repeats it all letting everyone know the fish are still there for the taking and still doesn't get it.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I was hoping to make it down to the not so secret secret spot but had other things going on and couldn't make it down. Anybody make it down there this weekend to see if there was enough elbow room to fish?

Phil, you probably made half the neighboring population of Taneycomo mad by mentioning crappie and a location together. You ruined it. Probably be 50 boats there tomorrow! It's a fact every meat fisher in Mo reads this forum and acts on everything they read.

I used to eat smallmouth when I was a kid They reminded me of drum. Just okay. I would rather eat something else. Like ..... Crappie or wipers or flatheads. I guess I'm picky.

I think that's an exaggeration. A lot of people on this sight are native to the general area, KS, AR, OK, included and WE see the smallmouth in much the same manner that other states see their native trout. We only have so many rivers and they are stressed and there will be no replacement. It shouldn't be hard to understand why many are protective of them. The smallies are somewhat vulnerable in streams to begin with, add cold water and drive them to a spring and they are in a barrel.

I see people catch and keep smallie out of the pothole every spring and it doesn't bother me because these fish are part of a much larger population that is seldom tapped considering their numbers and area.

A lot can be reported without reporting where the fish in the barrel are and it's hypocritical to whine and hide locations near you then go shoot fish in a barrel and invite the world.

Perhaps it was an exaggeration, but the shaming and mistreating someone legally keeping a big fish, especially trout, is apparent in the tailwaters forums. I don't eat fish other than crappie and bluegills, but the holier than thou attitude prevails for some reason with trophy fish that are at the end of their life cycle.

You are right about fish in a barrel.

Stream fish must be protected beyond what they are now, but with the current regulations, odds of it are slim to none.

Seth. I've been talking about crappie at the landing in the winter for years. I catch them maybe 1 out of 5 times down so its not a hot spot. Saying that Duane cleaned up this afternoon.

don't we pay taxes so the Missouri Dept of Conservation can establish daily creel limits and possession limits?

Yep and maybe one day they will realize that the only people who's opinions should count are the trophy smallmouth angler. The guys who legally want to keep some fish to eat don't count. People are still catching smallmouth, even some nice ones, so the regs they have had in place for years must be doing the job that was intended.

It's obvious that the majority of the guys who voice their opinions on here are in the my way or the highway club. They have no regard for other peoples opinions.

A fresh batch of cold water crappie would definitely hit the spot right now!

He he he. "No regard for other peoples opinions" indeed. A bunch of people on here have given you good reasons why they are uneasy with posting specific locations under certain circumstances, and all you have is that it's legal, and you haven't seen any evidence of meat fishermen targeting smallmouth, and the sarcasm about expecting Maramec Spring to be elbow to elbow with anglers targeting smallies the next time you go there.

You know what? If somebody asks me not tell their fishing spot after they take me there, I'm darned sure not going to tell it. It's only common angling courtesy. A whole bunch of people are asking you to be a little more circumspect about posting specific locations in some specific circumstances. It would seem to me to be a matter of common angling courtesy that you think a little about not doing so, and especially not posting it all over the internet.
