Hunter53 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 If you watch the video it is not the double san diego. He only wraps 3 times and does not pass the loop/tag between the lines. They are close to being tied the same but not quite exactly the same.
Quillback Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Vanish was the first flouro I used when fluorocarbon lines started gaining popularity years ago.... Lets just say there are several other brands out there that outperform Vanish. I use Seaguar and feel its one of the best lines available. It is more expensive than Vanish but in my opinion worth it. They call it Vanish because it makes your lures vanish.
Hazbin Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 The best knot I've found is a double uni knot. On braid and fluorocarbon I wrap it 8 times rather than 6 on mono. You double it through the eye and it has the appearance of a hangman's noose with the loop and tag end coming out at the end ( 3 cut ends ) up the line. My experience has prov-en it will never break at the tie and it is definitely the strongest knot out there.
Mitch f Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 They call it Vanish because it makes your lures vanish. Got to agree there! unless you change it every time you go out. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Seth Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 They call it Vanish because it makes your lures vanish. I switched from 14# Trilene XL to Vanish this year on my jig/trig setup. I'm curious to see if I have the same trouble with losing lures. I don't think I broke one off all last year on the 12-14# XL but several guys I fish a club against seem to break fish off on the hook set a lot. I know some use Big Game and not sure about the others. Never understood how people could break that many fish off using bass tackle.

In do not use all the different types of lines and do not think most of the hype really amounts to a lot. I have used PBS mono in the large spools for many years for everything mostly in lines between 8 and 12 test. I do not have break offs ever because of line failure. it is do if it it happens because i have not been checking my line for abrasion enough or have used a hook that has a sharp edge in the eye where the wire bend mets the eye. in the later case a small chunk of the knot might still be there. I believe all other break offs come from line abrasion or the combination of a damaged line and a attempt to horse the fish into the boat. Then there is fishing boat docks the frames and especially the cable are rough and sharp. In this case if the fish gets on one side and you on the other i suggest you just pray about it.

I need a better proof reader I guess.

I'll say this Plug you got it right on strength. Their mono is made by Shakespeare and that's some of the toughest stuff you can buy. I fished their 17# at night for years and if you ever got hung up and the hook wouldn't straighten out you had to cut the line as you couldn't break it. It has a lot of memory and stretch other than that it some formidable stuff.
Old plug Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 well I am going to try that. i just bought a new BBZ-1 Junior. After what i paid for it I am thinking about saddling up one of 61/2 ft worm rods with something around that weight. The first time one of these bid long nose gar around here looks at it I might add a 3 inch steel leader to the front in top on top of that.
