I used fireline for years and loved it; then I found nanofil; and love it more. I believe fireline and nanofil are a thermally fused line; a different animal from traditional braid. Very different from any braids I've tried over the years..........Coupled with a Seguar Fluoro leader, it's fantastic.

I splurged and bought some Seguar Tatsu on sale and it is unreal! NONE of the negative issues of Fluoro; but all the benefits. It's expensive, but I only use a leader anyway; so the cost doesn't really come into play.

Braid with a leader works nicely until you have to re-tie the line to leader knot when it is 40 degrees, sleeting, and the wind is puffing along about 30mph. That is why I gave it up. As Ham noted, not usually a connection failure, but just regular re-tie issues. Maybe I like to re-tie too often (although that seems unlikely).

We do run straight braid on my daughter's frog rod during the summer, and on spincast reels for the kids when running redfins.

I guess I am lazy and in the minority...I like a co-poly for my spinning gear. Yozuri Hybrid to be specific.

Nothing works well in the weather conditions you described. That weaher just sucks.

I do tie direct with braid on my frogs and a rigs. I won't fish a frog without braid.

That said, the best darn spinning reel line I've found is BPS Excel in green tint, 6-pound test. Love that stuff.

This ^^^^

I just got through buying jumbo spools of 6 & 8lb tests at bass pro outlet for $14.99 a spool.

I can se your point there Ham. the braid makes it easier to work top waters of that type because it is so buoyant.

I lost a lot of big bass because they would bury in the slop and you couldn't move them. the braid cuts through the slop and you can maintain a tight line.

Never have fished a frog in the weeds, but it's funny watching the guys who do on the fishing shows. They bring in a big wad of weeds and somewhere inside that stuff is a bass. Would you like a salad with that bass, sir?

I have used the Nanofil since it came out and love the way it casts. Working a fluke it was perfect because the line doesn't sink and it was easier for me to tell how deep the bait was based on how much line was under water.

But I broke the line on at least half the hooksets. I used an 18" FC leader rated a couple pounds under the Nanofil and the break was always above the Albright knot. I finally turned the drag down low enough to prevent the break offs, but am surprised how light it needs to be set.

Florocarbon is a heavy line that when put on a spinning reel impedes the passage of the line through the butt guide as it comes of the face of the reel. There are videos that attest to this and are incredible to watch. Braid, nano or mono are best for a spinning reel. I'll only run floro on a baitcaster.
