dtrs5kprs Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Coffee is our friendly neighborhood nuke here in the Tornado State. Used to be called Wolf Creek. Can only assume that pink bait is actually radioactive . Good work Blue.
Quillback Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Ahhh, Wolf creek, I did a software install there a few years ago and gazed longingly out the window at that lake. I believe at the time they only let a few boats a day fish it, people made reservations months in advance. Pretty much catch and release at the time, the fishermen that worked at the plant raved about that lake. They said however that they were going to do away with the reservation system because guys who waited months to get on the lake would go no matter how nasty the weather. The rescue folks were getting tired of fishing fishermen out of the lake who got caught out in nasty winds and got in trouble. Would love to fish it some day, but it's a few hours out of my range.
Ham Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 All those nice bass AND a puppy. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
bluebasser86 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Looks like a GREAT time! I am envious of day like that! Mind sharing who makes that wobble head jig? Kind of looks like a biffle hardhead? I love that style of jig for biffle bugs, beavers and creature baits. I pour my own. Great for almost any plastic and I've also started tying a bladed jig version with them with crazy action and can be made completely weedless by just adding a plastic trailer and rigging it texposed. I caught several fish on them Thursday, including the 4th fish from the top on the kind of sexy shad colored bait. That is ridiculous bluebasser! You really put a whoopin on them. I gather by your coments that the lake you are fishing has a warm water discharge, which would mean spring like water temps. Those pic's are giving me a bad case of spring fever. That was Coffey County/Wolf Creek lake and it is a power plant lake. Water temps ranged from 60-51 depending on how close to the plant we were. Fishing was actually much better in the colder water. Always nice to be able to catch fish in the winter, especially when you're almost the only boat on the lake. Coffee is our friendly neighborhood nuke here in the Tornado State. Used to be called Wolf Creek. Can only assume that pink bait is actually radioactive . Good work Blue. I tied some of those pink baits for my wife to fish and got caught on a trip without any others but the pink one and the fish slammed the thing. I get some looks and comments when I'm tying it on but those quickly fade when the fish start coming to the boat. Yep, no more reservations to fish thankfully. You do have to wear a lifejacket the whole time you're on the lake and now they have 2 way marine radios that they'll call you off the lake with if it gets too windy. It's a fun lake but I wouldn't drive much further than what I do to fish it. All those nice bass AND a puppy. Cassidee would never forgive me if I went fishing and didn't take her. She's been my fishing buddy since she was just a couple months old. Now she's a seasoned vet in the boat.
kjackson Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Where did you get the mold for the wobble head? I've been looking but have yet to find one.
dtrs5kprs Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Do It has one this year. Called the Swing Football Jig mold. http://www.barlowstackle.com/Do-It-Football-Swing-Jig-Mold-P3026C242.aspx Little tricky to use initially, but once you get a feel for it it is simple. Watch your hooks...pretty easy to ruin a point during the pouring process because of the way the mold is cut. I added a little duct tape in spots to help hold the hook in place and protect the point. Blue...good thought on using them for the bladed jigs. I'm with you on the drive to Coffee. I'd rather just drive to Table Rock from Leavenworth, and I get to decide how much wind my barge can handle.
moguy1973 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I bought one of the Wagasaki colored ones last fall, but I never got a chance to use it. I'm anxious to try it once the water isn't so hard around here. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
