West Fork Jason Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Perch and bluegill were on the menu last night, and tonight it was gills and crappie. Cooking method- Drag the fillets in flour, eggs, than panko. Fry Daddy. Garnish with lime and tartar sauce. My personal opinion- Crappie taste like dirty bass, and perch are mmmmmmyyyy little tiny walleye. http://www.WestForkJason.com
Ham Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Stir the pot my man. I suspect your taste buds are freezer burned. Pretty cold here, I imagine it's really darn cold there. Enjoy your eats. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
West Fork Jason Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 We have snowmobiles here, the fish has been fresh the last two nights;) Don't be one of those "my 4x4 can drive through anything" guys. The ice can support the truck (and a train), but the snow is a bit deep. I was scouting for a tourny today- http://members.haywardareachamber.com/Events/details/2nd-annual-freeze-your-buns-off-crappie-ice-fishing-tournament-8111 http://www.WestForkJason.com
Quillback Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I've eaten yeller perch and I've eaten crappie, but never have done a side by side taste test. But overall, I think either one are good eating fish.
Dutch Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Send me some perch fillets and I'll do a side by side and let you know what I think.

vonreed Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Me Too! Yeah I'm on the list too. And I believe yellow perch are tops of all!
bfishn Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I wouldn't kick either one off the plate for eatin' crackers. My memory says perch are better, but the only time I had some I was so freakin' starved a carp would have been welcome. Maybe not a fair assessment. Better send me some. I can't dance like I used to.
Gatorjet Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 To think years ago, when I was a kid we would spend two weeks in the Summer at a resort North of Grand Rapids Minnesota. We caught a bunch of yellow perch while crappie fishing, and were told they were "bait staeling trash fish". We never kept a single one. Kinda wonder why we didn't at least try them. Especially later in my rebellious teens when I caught a catfish up there, and was told the same thing. Being from Missouri, we knew better, and It went in the fryer with the crappie, bluegill, and walleye. Real men go propless!
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I don't know, I've never eaten a crappy crappie down here. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
