rps Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Champ: You and Donna can catch keepers on any lake. Seems to me it is time for you to school the Rogers/Springdale/Bentonville folk.
J-Doc Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Wise words, J-Doc. Needed to hear em. Thanks. And thanks for the compliment on the Ranger. We shopped long and hard before deciding and have not regretted our choice one bit. No problem. Bobby Jones once despised his biggest challenge, St Andrews golf course. After a terrible British Open, he felt it was too brutal. Later in his golf experience, he won the British Open at St. Andrews. He later founded Augusta Golf Club as his omage to St Andrews. Point is, don't give up on your hardest challenge. Take it, conquer it and make it your own. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
dtrs5kprs Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 LOL, nope but she was dressed a little better than me. Someone has gotten too dadgum fat for his GoreTex jacket. Personally, I have never outgrown a set of gore tex, but have had a couple inexplicably just stop working, causing me to buy a new set in the next size up .
Quillback Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Sorry to hear the fish are still not cooperating. Seems to be it's a-rig or die right now. I'm going to see if I can make it through the winter without throwing the rig (pretty easy to do when you can't fish because of the weather). But I don't fish tourneys. From what I can tell, if you want to win a tourney you have to throw the rig.
Champ188 Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 Thanks to all for the encouraging words about the Beaver derbies. We're gonna go at it with renewed minds and a resolve to approach the lake like we've never seen it. "Fish the moment" so to speak and not the history book.
Sore Thumbs Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Champ. I have a feeling that first tournament is gonna be brutal. I know we have a warming trend coming. I just don't think it's gonna be enough to kick start the bite. Hopefully for your sake it does.
Donna G Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Couple of pics from yesterday's foray ....2014-02-09 15.41.26 (640x640).jpg2014-02-09 14.46.41 (480x640) (480x640).jpg I look like Mrs. Claus driving the "Ranger" sleigh. lol Hope the fabulous Donna drove and made you ride in the "brr" seat. I 'drove" it off the trailer. And when we were ready to go I walked up the hill for the trailer. Not sure how we got into that habit. Oh, wait. I think it's because Champ188 was dodging the walk up the hill to the truck. I was not uncomfortable at all. My new UA Cold Gear head sock and I have a love affair going. Wish I had bought one years ago. Next purchase will be a set of the Cold Gear base layer. The Polartec fleece thermals I had on Sunday did the trick for our short outing, along with a couple of layers, a hoodie and my Guidewear bibs and jacket. Do I sound like one of those TV pros working in my sponsors every 60 seconds? It would be pretty boring if I did that since my only true sponsor is Champ188. Forgot to mention my Ozark Trails Thinsulate boots. ha ha Donna Gilzow Bella Vista, Arkansas The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. --John Buchan, 1915
Sprint21fter Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Champ, did you see much shad dying that far down lake? There has been some small shad flipping around KC area was wondering if this last cold blast stunned anymore of them? Have heard that its getting worse for the shad from Club guys will find out for sure with AiA this weekend.

fishingaddiction Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 You and Donna are to be commended on giving it a try Sunday. Sorry the catching wasn't any good, but better days are ahead. As you know I tried to go Sunday, but would have had to break ice to get to open water, not to mention possibly dumping my truck and boat into the drink on the slick ramp. Good luck with the Beaver derbies, and thanks for posting. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
