I guess the gray Marabou1/8 oz road runners I tie up won't get bit slow rolled in early spring either. Darn.

Especially not those. Best to just burn them so no one has a chance to mock you.

For the love of all that is holy, do not throw a whirly bee at them.

This has probably been covered, but are you guys just using a standard round jig head or are you using a shakey head jig? Or a jighead where the bait stands more up and down. Also are you using weedguards or no?

Yes on guards. Single wire. If you want or need to go to an open hook (for swimming or super slow bites) you can just clip it off.

Button heads, or mushroom heads are the deal. Gopher is a good example, or the Outkast Money Jig. 1/32oz-1/8oz, about a #2 hook. Bigger is not better.

Round and smaller FB heads work, but they fish differently.

Most shakey heads are far too large. Was interesting to see Doc Seger using it with one. I played around with the cut baits on a punching type hook with a tungsten weight for flipping, but never quite hit it right. Either that or it is just not a good option. Seems odd because I have caught them flipping the 1/16oz heads into willows on 6# Invizx. Sort of a low percentage deal in terms of landed fish, but exciting.

Top is 1/16oz, #2 Gamakatsu. Bottom is 1/8oz, same hook. A cut ZinkerZ is in the middle to help with size. The cut bait is about 2 & 1/2" long. There are lots of pics of various heads, baits, and rigging options at Ned's In Fisherman blog.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I hate to bother you for more info but I guess thats why we are on the forum. So where do you get those jig heads at a reasonable price or do u just make them yourself?

I like that last jig head..is that one you make?

Home brewed.

Thumbs...those will work, but the elaztech can be ugly about going up on a head with a collar. The Gopher head Ned prefers has that collar, as does my 3/32oz mold. Those look like 3/32, 1/8, 3/16?

Watch that sickle hook. I was very high on it a couple of years ago, but think it has too much flex on a big fish.

Dave has the best heads for the Ned Rig. Being that I don't pour my own stuff like him I just get mine at Wally World's fishing section which aren't as good but they do the trick just fine. They are made by Arkie and are a button head stand up model with a single cable wire guard and they have them in 1/8oz and 1/4oz. The 1/8oz plays in just about every situation and is almost the ideal weight for hitting both shallow or deep. That is just my opinion and I think Dave likes a smaller weight than that. On my 7'M Cara and Pflueger Supreme with 8lb Yozuri setup I can cast this thing out of sight. They are like $2.50 for a 5 pack.
