I'm sure there are some crooks, but in my experience Ozark outfitters are quality folks. As far as going down Ozark hills generating enough speed to get you up the next hill: I wish it were true. They give you a pretty good start, but that's about it, imho.

Just stay away from the North Fork.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

No way in heck am I leaving anything alone for people to steal. I'd rather pay someone to drop me off, or hire and outfitter, All that time on a bike is better spent fishing for me. Heck i been known to pay buddies 25 to take me and the yak. from Springfield lake to Crieghton.

I've been learning to pole a canoe upstream...Cant say that I'm good at it...Get tired of it after 2-3 miles...but I'm only doing it on day trips so far. The late Ralph Brown or the Belitz Brothers would consider me pathetic with a canoe pole in my hand.

Poling "well" is harder than it looks. From the bow of a river jon I can pull it off, but I tip my hat to the guys that can do it from the stern or center of any kinda craft.

Was one of the Belitz brothers name Sylvester?

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

I agree with that one. Most streams you can paddle back up, walk thru the riffles, fish while you are doing it. I think the pole would be a waste of time.

Yeah - get out and walk it, stupid.

I paddle up all the time, it just takes a little more muscle but after a trip or two you figure out how to do it for whatever stretch of water you're on.
