Another no vote on river reels against the Shimbindo's. If you stay dry in the big boat they're fine, but I have a mix of older BPS Pro Qualifier, Pflueger's and some Abu. I'm really impressed with the newer Orra S - so much so that I'm not sure if I'd upgrade or just buy another one.

If you can afford it the stradic's are really nice. I have two of them and love them for all applications. For the money though, I really like the pflueger presidents which run about $60 and the supreme's. Really good reels for the money.

I agree about the pflueger presidents, for the money they are really hard to beat. I use shimano stradics as well and love them. I have had 2 of them for over 12 years and I use spinning gear exclusively. Until recently I have only fished rivers and ponds and the stradics have been great.

Pflueger presidents are my personal fav. The supremes are great too if you wanna jump in price, but at 50$ Id go with presidents. I have a sahara 100 and 2500 and much prefer the pflueger reels. My 2 cents.....spend your money on a rod, and get a med quality reel...especially with spinning gear when you are fishing jigs or vertical presentations, you need the sensitivity. Casting/cranking gear id spend the money on the reel and get a lower modulus rod.

I'm using a mish mash of Daiwa, Quantum, and Pfulger. I got burned by the binding Shimano deal years ago and I won't ever buy another Shimano spinning reel.

I also got burned buying some US Reels. Cabela's closed them out @ $50 bucks for a reel that had retailed for $150. Absolutely the worst drag I have ever seen on a spinning reel. I love the large arbor reel, but the US Reels I have are junk and I won't ever buy another.

I just recently pirchased a Lew's Gold. I have not had a chance to fish with it yet.

Like Dave I really prefer the 2500-3000 size reel. I won't buy another reel < 2000 size for any application. The line behaves much better for me on a larger reel.

Not meaning to hijack your thread FH but this seems like the best spot for this question. I've converted a couple spinning set ups over to braid w/ a flouro leader and loving it. If others on here have done this, anybody had situations that they didn't like that set up? I've been using it for shaky head and drop shot but I'm curious how it does with small cranks?

I quit liking that set up for most things once I tried Nanofil with a leader. I've used a fluro leader, but I'm having trouble convincing myself that it's better than a mono leader.

Have not cranked with it, but can't stand the braid to leader deal. Too many knots to re-tie in the wind, which always seems to be blowing when you pop one. Straight braid is awesome, when you can get away with it.

I really like using braid with a fluoro leader. I do not crank with that set up though. I primarily crank with baitcasting gear but for certain applications i will crank with a spinning rod/reel. But always with fluorocarbon. Feel like the braid with fluoro leader is going to cost you a little depth on your crankbait.
