Members jordan21 Posted February 24, 2014 Members Posted February 24, 2014 does anybody use the pre rapala suspending warts ? I was wondering what the advantage or disadvantages were
Mitch f Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Dremel? In the time it would take to dig it out, find and change the bit, put on safety glasses, and plug it in.... I could have the crankbait "tuned" with an emery board. Forgot who I was talking to!! Like I said in another thread, even cheapo lures are just one little tweak away from being a fish catcher! abkeenan Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Wow Mitch. This thread has taken the Pre Rapala Wart to a whole new level. Awesome.
Jerry Rapp Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 back in the day, I bet I threw 10 of them old wiggle warts up on the bank because I never could get them to work. Most just did loop de loops, or went 90 degrees to the side. I would work on them, work on them, and then just say to hell with it and toss them. I am not privy to anyone ever being really successful with them winning money consistently. I talked and interviewed a lot of the big guns in the Ozarks tournaments over the years, both on and off the record, and I myself never did think they were as "go to" as many of you think. They have been a fad for sure, and still are. I just wish I had those I chunked back to sell to you guys.
Jerry Rapp Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I had a lot of confidence in a couple old wooden Bomber water dog. I do not know if they even sell them anymore. I caught 2 bass over the years slightly over 7 pounds in Wapappello Lake on them. I think the two I had have been lost for sometime. Bombers of any type! Good one Old Plug! Throw in HellBenders also! Creek Chub Crawdad? Those baits will never work anymore. Unless you got them custom painted. I have a bunch of them oldies in storage, might be time to break them out. That old Creek Chub Crawdad might be a killer in wiggle wart water.
rps Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Just a thought...I have always done the best when the bait was crashing into the bottom or cover. The crazed take off from the collision seems to be the trigger. Pauses and starts as well. Under those circumstances, the difference diminishes. The erratic wander is more important trolling for walleyes.
Old plug Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I never really worked one fast. that is why a lot of mine were weighted. I liked to hop it and bump it over the bottom.
Old plug Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Merc1967 that was a very good point. You might be able to take a nice vacation if you sold your old ones on here.

Also throw in a few Mudbugs which caught their share of the green fish

There are other lures in the past that really looked good but you could never get them tuned to run straight. Lazy Ike made one called a Natural Ike which hooked several fisherman with their looks but fish did not like them if you were fortunate enough to get one to run straight without turning circles.
