ness Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Classic brownbow. What's the scoop on triploids in MO? John
John W Kelly Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 So the consensus is that, this is a physically and genetically modified german triploid mutant ninja brown trout that was maimed by "They" who also provided it with crippling living conditions as a youngster at the hatchery. Right? The reason I was wondering is because this is the first "brown" trout I've ever caught. lol
Gavin Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 The biologist don't clip the front pelvic fin, but they do clip the adipose, rear pelvic, and tail fin. The do grow back.
Quillback Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I've heard of triploid rainbows, but never triploid browns. In the Skykomish river in Washington I once caught a net pen escapee Atlantic salmon while I was fishing for summer steelhead. That fish had hardly a fin on it, I'm assuming they rubbed off in the net pen. It surprised me that it had made up 20 river miles to where I caught it.
Quillback Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 WA state clips adipose fins on hatchery steelhead smolts. The adipose does not grow back, at least on steelhead.
Quillback Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 This fish was caught at Roaring River. Biologists are blaming runoff from hog farms.
fishinwrench Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 The biologist don't clip the front pelvic fin, but they do clip the adipose, rear pelvic, and tail fin. The do grow back. Front pelvic? You sippin' from the jug tonite? I'd be surprised to see a pectoral grow back that was clipped THAT short, even if it did live long enough to. Which it won't. Biologist are really good at pretending to know alot of stuff, so one B saying that he "knows" that no other FB's clip pectorals doesn't convince me. I've seen too many of those missing fins and they all look the same. So raceway injurys all look the same by default? Pffft! Ok whatever. I think I am becoming bitter about Missouri TROUT....by default.
