rps Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 RPS I remember a while back you said you made your own Jika rigs. I forgot what size split rings you said works best though. Do you mind refreshing my memory? Alex, what I actually did was to suggest using coastlock snaps. A weight and a hook fit well in the large opening of the snap. It simplifies making the rig.
Guest Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I'm using gopher mushroom heads bought at cabelas in Rogers. Also, the pjs finesse jig can be bought at Southtown in Fayetteville. I've also got various homemade jig heads that may be better than store bought.
kjackson Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 You can, or could, get mushroom-head jigs on eBay for a pretty fair price. All the guy had was 1/16-ounce, but that can be a workhorse size when the wind isn't blowing.

The sickles are plenty sharp, but seem to flex too much in the #2 size. You are spot on regarding size. If you only plan to buy one size to try, make it the 1/16oz.
Bill Babler Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Next time I look all you Whimps will be fishing Table Rock with a 5wt. fly rod and a size 20 midge. Champ I didn't think that thumb looked all that bad. But one question? With those big Mitts, how in the world did you get that little thing tied on.? I bet my gal friend tied it on for you. And I'm with you, Denny calling anything "Big and Ugly" just is not right. You boys and girls need to fish more manly stuff like I do. OOOP's I forgot about the floater. "Never Mind." Dave thanks again for the care package. I will post pictures of my success. GULP! http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Quillback Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 I am actually thinking of tossing a fly around
gitnby Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Has anyone tried the ZinkerZ on a Jika? Was out last week, and had a Jika tied on one rod, and I wanted to give the Zinker a try. I was too lazy to reach way down in my storage for some mushroom heads, so I just threaded the Zinker on up on the Jika, pushing the worm up and over the split rings snug to the head. The rings actually helped bite the worm and hold it to the head. Caught a few 14" with it. May try the Zinker rigged regular Jika-style?

Have not tried the cut down bait, but I do use the full bait on shakey heads and jikas. Need some glue, or a punch type keeper to hold it up. The full bait is very good on a shakey head.
