dtrs5kprs Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Dave, the Mustad 32833 hook is by far my new favorite hook. For anyone trying to pour with it, keep in mind it has a short eye leg, and you may have to tweak your mold a bit. It is also bigger than the gamakatsu, size 2 In the 32833 is roughly equal to size 1 in the 604 gamakatsu.
Gavin Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Check out Bite Me Jigs....They have a really good stand up...and I like the hunter ball head...1/8oz and over. I don't like how the plastic on the weedguard melts when I powder coat but the jigs perform very well...Black nickle gammies...good guard...Like.
Pepe Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 This is a great thread and I appreciate the tips about eliminating the barb and the smaller hooks. I was trying to shoehorn larger hooks into my molds. I will stick to the #2 going forward and knock of the barbs. Here are some made with twisted wire guard and with two thinner wires formed in a V.
Ham Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 DC, I love that weed guard you've got. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
J-Doc Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 After seeing some of DC's jigs in person (thank you again), they are top quality. His jigs and jig heads are better than store bought material. The quality is just there and the design is great as well. I personally like the double weedguard. I've had some finesse jigs with double weedguards and they tend to come through cover easier. I haven't noticed the bite being affected by the double weedguard either. Need marine repair?Ā Send our own forum friendĀ "fishinwrench" a message.Ā He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
abkeenan Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 DangerClose, Nice heads there. I really like that double weed guard version you have there kickstanded. Look perfect for the Ned.

Well so much for keeping the twin wire heads a secret. Those are the way to go for really nasty work. DC...nice work. Which wire are you running in those? Now if they only made flat eye hooks in the small sizes...

I see how it is...guess I should have kept my mouth shut about the Pink Helicopter Lureā¢ rigged on a Jika Rig then. I guess I will start holding stuff back now too.....
Members eyra_kid Posted March 18, 2014 Members Posted March 18, 2014 Hey guys, I rarely post here, but check in every once in a awhile. I've known Ned for about 10 years, and got a chance to learn about the rig way back when it was "secret." Hopefully I can add a few tidbits that I've learned over the years. dtrs5kprs is absolutely correct on the hook size. To me, the length of the shank is critical with as short of a bait as we are using. I've tried a number of different jigheads, but overall my favorite is the Gopher with the #2 red Mustad ultrapoint. With Gopher's centrifugal mold, I just prefer the flattened shape of the head that I don't think can be duplicated with a conventional mold. For the hook, I could care less about the color, but it is plated and doesn't rust as easily as the bronze hook. Downside though, is it is a more brittle hook. I've broke a few, but usually I had gotten plenty of use out of it already and gone through a few snags. For a ready-made brushguard jig, I started using the Hayabusa Brush Easy head last year. They are expensive, but the hook size is right and high-quality. Brush guard worked well around all the timber at Truman. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Hayabusa_Brush_Easy_Head/descpage-BEHH.html
