Champ188 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I am a generation in between the younger and older generation of fisherman. I understand both points of view as far as like ability goes. I get the younger guys who like the flat bill hats, cool shoes, pimped out trucks and boats. I like some of that stuff myself. I think with Palanuik, it kind of has that Tiger Woods feel to it. BASS is shoving him down our throats constantly. It's not really Palaniks fault, but he seems highly over exposed. As for the older guys liking the older fishermen. I'm sure it's revisionist history that fuels their like for these guys. They are the old guard to the past. They aren't flashy just good ole boys who like to fish and respect the sport. People like Mark Davis who is a heavy set guy, no longer exist in this sport because companies want good looking, charismatic guys who are in shape to represent their product. I picked up fishing about 6 years ago and there is a noticeable difference between now and just 6 yrs ago as to how the sport is covered. Being 40 yrs old I see both sides of this issue. Just seems like the sport is becoming more about products and less about actually fishing. Well said, Thumbs. Very well said.
Champ188 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Also must say that Sprint makes an excellent point ... it figures to be a FISHING derby and not a bed-hunting contest. The pros themselves hunger for that. Nothing they like more than being able to match strengths with the others and let the best man win.
Sore Thumbs Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I agree Champ. It's gonna be about adjustments and finding fish. The field will be tight I think. Might come down to the last day.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Funny how people label "Highland Reservoirs" to all fish a like. That was the first thing that jumped out. Maybe it was just interview speak. Anyone who really believes that should divide a week up evenly between Beaver, Table Rock, and Bull, then review their position.
Sore Thumbs Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 If that was the case I would do a lot better at Beaver. Lol
ryan Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I think they all fish pretty much the same in the sense that the same patterns dominate. Obviously everyone knows what baits will usually play big in tournaments around here at certain times of the year. If I go to beaver, bull, loz, or grand and check 100 boats fishing tournaments a good bet that they all have similar baits/colors ect tied on. The lakes differ in terms of structure but you can't argue that they fish pretty similar.
Lvn2Fish Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Brandon Palaniuk couldn't be a nicer person, got a chance to randomly meet him at Texoma last year when I was pre fishing for the BFL regional. Talked with him for a good 20 minutes. Friendly as can be, talked to me like I was a friend. The only thing I hated about him was how unbelievably hot his girlfriend was ....
Lvn2Fish Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I'll say it again Casey Scanlon is my pick! Will get his first win in the elites
Quillback Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 How many days do they get to pre-fish? I think it's only one day, but not sure.
OldMillRoad Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I think they get 2 or 3 days, starting Monday.
