Members Fat Boy Posted April 1, 2014 Members Posted April 1, 2014 From what I've seen the pros will work this lake over, the fish are on the move. This wkend I feel the fish broke loose, quick limits each day on stick baits and once the sun got good and hi the big fish would move up and the frenzy was on sticker, wart and a rig. Have been on the water every wkend for 6 wks and the bite has got better every day, worst day has been 13 kps and around 16 lbs. Have had at least 1 6lbr every trip and Sunday the brownies came out. All these fish have been KC to Baxter to Hideaway, I'm not bragging just saying I feel the pros will slaughter them to me its the perfect storm.
Champ188 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Good lord, I suck. Anyone wanna buy a nice Ranger? Comes with a couple dozen rods-and-reels and a crapload of other gear. Last count, I had five boxes of stickbaits that I obviously don't know how to use. PM if interested. I'm gonna slink away now and go practice my golf swing.
duckydoty Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 That is some pretty good catching! At least we know we have some room for improvement. Think I'm gonna stick with the crappie and whites this weekend. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
magicwormman Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I'm with you champ! I better sell my Ranger and take up another sport. I can catch a few fish on the A rig on main lake points, but nothing like that. I guess after fishing this pond for 40 years, it's time to break down and hire a good guide.
Sprint21fter Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I would like to see what they would catch if they were allowed to use the A-rig! It will still be scary what they will catch using standard equipment. It will be fun.
Sore Thumbs Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Cmon Fat Boy. We need pics of some of these fish. I haven't caught that much so at least I could enjoy looking at your pics. Lol
Sore Thumbs Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Champ. You not fishing Okie division this year?

None of the guides I know are catching em like that. Not even the Bx4 duo, who are as good as good gets. Better see what FatBoy charges for a trip.
Champ188 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Champ. You not fishing Okie division this year? No derby series for me this year, Thumbs. Started a new job last September after 35 years as a newspaper writer/editor, and even though our vacation policy is very liberal, I don't want to make myself too scarce right out of the gate. Besides, I got a little weary of drawing the occasional intolerable backseater while worrying at the same time about Donna being safe with whatever boater she's paired with. I don't know if it's me getting older and pickier, but there seems to be a bigger percentage of folks that I'm not comfortable with her spending the day with. She flat knows her way around a boat and can take care of herself as well as any man, but some things are beyond your control as a nonboater ... i.e. when to get out of the lightning, when to slow the hell down and arrive safely, etc. So, all that to say ... we're fishing the Everett team derbies on Beaver and just gonna jackpot whatever else (teamwise) strikes our fancy. That's not at all to say I'm done with the pro-am style tournaments. Next time a Bassmaster Open or FLW Everstart comes to Table Rock, I'm all in. Otherwise, I'm fishing with my pards, to whom I've been married 20 years tomorrow (April 2). Anyone who gets a chance, please congratulate her on making it 20 years without killing me.
Sore Thumbs Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I get what you are saying. I drew a guy on Arkansas River event that was from Texas. He is fishing Okie division because championship is on Sam Rayburn. His idea of success is catching one keeper per tourney to qualify for Championship. He pre fished half a day and that was it. Between running 25 min to the lock,30 min in the lock and running way up Kerr for 45 more minutes. Not a lot of time to fish before we had to head back and do it all again. We both caught one keeper. Only thing I learned was to never run that far for fish if you aren't certain a good limit is waiting for you. Next year I'm gonna be a boater. I have had enough of being a co angler.
