Seth Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 For anyone looking for a cheaper alternative to the Biffle Hard Head, one of OAF's sponsors Swing Oil Baits sells their verson for about half as much: http://swingoilbaits.com/SWING-JIG-SKU-227.htm Tons of powder paint colors to choose from too... I was about to post the same info. For those who want to be able to change hooks on the swivel jigheads, Punisher Lures makes one called the Hail Mary with a ring.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 For all of our efforts, do we know what Davis was throwing it on? Obviously it was a casting rod, but what line? I've been throwing it on 15# just like a football jig, but that has been dragging it, not swimming it. Might make a big difference.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Read somewhere it was 17# floro Apparently so. Just found it here. http://basszone.com/featured-stories/m.blog/58/mcclelland-earns-his-fourth-elite-series-trophy Pretty much the best post event written coverage I have seen. Guess my 15# will be just fine. Goofy lake.

Sprint21fter Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 You don't need as much light line as one would think on our clearwater lakes. The A-rig has blown that of the water. Although at times sensitivity goes a long ways. It is whatever one feels comfortable throwing.
jmes Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I agree, I get asked all the time about fishing line but the A-rig changes your whole aspect of line size Since the out come of the rig I have changed lines to different sizes just to do my own studys and I haven't notice me catching any less fish. But there is a time and a place for different line sizes and kinds but thats a whole another consevation

Swimming, dragging, hopping doesnt matter. also 7' heavy action rod is a good idea
Alex Heitman Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I used to never throw anything under 12. Now all I use is about 10lb invisix and 15 on jigs and topwaters. I really like the longer cast you can get with the 10lb plus just the over all feel you have with your lure.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Yep, standard FB jig rod is what I have used, and it seems to work. Use the same for bigger jika rigs. Was just one of those information gaps that was going to bug me. No pun intended.
