Hughesy Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Saw some guys pouring concrete for a set of gates at the entrance of Aunts Creek public use. I asked one of the guys what was going on and he informed me that they are going to close it up in the off season. I asked why and he stated that last winter they had someone steal all of the copper pipe plumbing out of the showers and restrooms. He said they even stole the wheels and winches off of the courtesy dock. He said it totaled around $20,000. So it looks like no launching in the off season at Aunts Creek which really sucks when you live two blocks from the place. Its just not right that we get punished for a crime we didn't even commit. You would think that they could patrol it a little better or figure out a better way than just locking it up. Like that's going to keep the the bad guys out.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 That is absolutely ridiculous. Wonder what their definition of off season is? You know, I have to wonder why COE areas are so high maintenance. There are countless state and county conservation areas that are open 24/7 with no more supervision than an occasional raccoon watching you at the ramp in the morning.
abkeenan Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 That is bad news. Unless your name is Techo....then it's music to your ears.
*T* Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Off-season, of course that is July, August & September, right? "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
Members capndan Posted April 18, 2014 Members Posted April 18, 2014 Wow I live right up from the ramp and use it all the time I am going to start writing letters and making phone calls. What an absolute crock. I have never liked the corp. My dad God rest his soul was the District Head of Right of Way for Southwest Missouri and he used to tell me all the crap the Corp pulled and my dad was one stand up kind of guy. He would be rolling over in his Grave if the Lord would let him hear this. I'm in it for the long haul anyone want to join me in making them sick of Phone calls?
Quillback Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Sorry to hear this, I can't believe the stuff people will steal these days.
Ranger Z22 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I also am within blocks of the ramp. When they call it the "off" season, we fishermen are just getting going for the fall. I have met Mr. Babler there, a time or two and I am sure this is their "off" season. That is cutting into what the guides could be doing also, just not right. Now that there is a gate the bad guys have a challenge, they can still get in to steal, while leaving the users with limited choices of where to launch. z22 PS Hughesy good to hear from you I am the guy, we met the day after thanksgiving...all is good.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Yes like a Gate is going to stop a thief, just like more gun control will stop a murder or thief. I have seen thieves steal copper from guarded construction sites and hasn't there been a video the last week on the news of one who broke in to a house and got caught in the babies room. When will the government officials on all levels understand punishing the country for the acts of a few is stupid and never ever works to prevent the crimes. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

What he said. + It's time to get on the phone and the email and contact your elected, so-called "Representatives" about this denial of use of public lands/water.
Members marimac1944 Posted April 18, 2014 Members Posted April 18, 2014 Apparently the corps does not have to abide by the statement on back of pass which states day use is authorized to date posted on front. Should be binding contract upon payment of fees. New government appears to again interrupt the rules and conditions anyway they like.
