dwiebenga Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 My fishing buddy, Jim, and I spent a long weekend out of Shell Knob. The bite was incredible. We landed over 100 fish for the weekend. We found the best bite to be from the bank out to 15 feet. The best banks were long tapered banks with basket ball size boulders or some fallen limbs in the water that were related to secondary points. The best baits of weekend were weight less Flukes (Pearl White), Shakey Head (watermelon-red flake) on a 3/16 oz head, C-Rig with a 3/8 oz sinker and a Fish Dr., and Wobble Head with a SK Mence in Watermelon-Red with a 7/16 oz head. The water temp went from 61-67 degrees throughout the weekend. We saw a number of bedding fish, and we left them alone unless they smashed into our baits. I would recommend getting out there, but I am not sure how the bite will fair with the cool down. They may stay put and commit to the spawn. Good Luck! Here is the plastic damage I did this weekend!
Members cReekFishin Posted April 29, 2014 Members Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks for the report. You can't go wrong with a fluke. My go to bait. My favorite is the Big Bites jerk minnow in watermelon red ghost. Kind of a baby bass color. They're a bit heavier than the Zoom flukes so you can really launch it out there .
Champ188 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Good job, dwiebenga. Nice to see a post from you, especially when it includes a great fishing report. Glad you got your licks in before the front.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Always love a pile of shredded baits. I don't really get that much anymore.
Members gatorbitu Posted April 29, 2014 Members Posted April 29, 2014 Very nice....congrats on a successful weekend!
Bill Babler Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Way to go buddy. Feel lucky you missed yesterday, the wind was so bad you fluke would have been a water skier. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
fishingaddiction Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Good report. Not many posts about the fluke bite, so good to hear they are liking them. Congrats on a great weekend. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Sore Thumbs Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks for the report. You can't go wrong with a fluke. My go to bait. My favorite is the Big Bites jerk minnow in watermelon red ghost. Kind of a baby bass color. They're a bit heavier than the Zoom flukes so you can really launch it out there . A great way to help make flukes sink a little better is Gamakatsu Ewg hooks with 1/16 weights on the hook. They also make them with 1/8 oz but the weights on those are almost too thick to slide thru the fluke. Double those with Flourocarbon and they sink just right. I can use baitcaster with this setup.
stinger160 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Dave's an animal with a fluke. Probably had 5 to every one I had. It's fun just watching him except on the hook set. Practically threw me out of our little boat.
